Kaiser Permanente Research Scientist III, Biostatistician in Pasadena, California

(Position is primarily remote but requires residence in California)

Serves as the biostatistician and consultant on research projects for Research and Evaluation (R&E) and the Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG). Designs, develops, obtains funding for, and directs research projects independently and collaboratively that are consistent with institutional, state and national health care priorities. Contributes to the overall achievements of R&E and SCPMG.

Essential Functions:

• General -Designs, develops, directs, and obtains funding for research projects that are consistent with institutional, state, and national health care priorities.

• Prepares grant proposals and creates analytic plans for grant proposals, internal reports, and manuscripts for publication in high-quality peer review journals.

• Provides service to the scientific community through reviewing manuscripts for publication and serving on editorial boards, grant review panels, and national boards of directors.

• May consult with local, state, and national non-profit and government agencies.

• Makes presentations to R&E as well as to SCPMG as requested.

• Presents papers in oral or poster format at national and international scientific meetings.

• Serves on and may Chair R&E&SCPMG committees based on experience and expertise.

• Mentors junior faculty when experience and opportunities permit.

• Rank Specific: RS Biostatistician III: Serves as principal biostatistician on major biomedical research projects.

• Designs, develops, and directs well-defined research.

• Requires extensive professional experience (usually 13 or more years).

• May assume responsibilities of Assistant Director.

• Participates in preparation of grant proposals, internal reports and publications.

• Master's new statistical methods as they are presented in the relevant literature and disseminates this knowledge to R&E staff.

• May provide consultation to top-level regional and inter-regional SCPMG/KP Health Plan managers/committees.

• May develop and publish new statistical methods and applications, independently or collaboratively.

• Mentors/supervisors junior level research scientists and technical staff.

• Is expected to serve as a PI/site PI or Sr. Biostatistician on 2 or more major research projects, and a Sr. Biostatistician/Co-I on 1-4 other extramurally funded studies.

• Publish 1-2 papers per year as a first author, 2-3 papers as a senior author, and 4-6 papers per year as a collaborating author.

• Make a presentation at R&E or SCPMG meeting and 1 or more national meetings per year; serves on R&E and SCPMG committees as well as 1-2 grant review committees.

• Review 6-12 papers per year for indexed peer review journals.

• Serve on 1-2 editorial board for peer review journals.

• This is the third level for a RS - Biostatistician career progression.

Education

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in biostatistics OR eight (8) years of experience in a directly related field.

• High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

• N/A.

Additional Requirements:

• Competent in advanced statistical techniques, study design and research methods commonly used in biomedical research.

• Ability to creatively apply statistical techniques and/or develop new statistical methods.

• Professional experience (years dependent on rank) in designing and conducting original research and publishing in peer review journals.

• Ranks of Research Scientist Biostatistician I-III are consistent with Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor in traditional academic setting.

• Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 13 or more years of related postdoctoral experience
