A surgical technologist plays an important part in the operating room working directly with surgeons, nurses, and other support staff.
Interactive classroom modules and on the job training will be provided.
Job Description:
Under direct supervision of a qualified preceptor, provides entry level technical skills in the operating room in accordance with established procedures, protocols, and regulations. Assists surgeon with preparation and handling of surgical instruments. Prepares operating rooms for surgery using appropriate techniques.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains good academic standing in allocated Surgical Technologist online training program.
Adheres to training curriculum to maintain efficient completion of program.
Prepares rooms between procedures and after terminal cleaning.
Prepares the operating room for cases by setting up table, instruments, and supplies according to type of case.
Drapes patients for surgical procedures.
Assists the surgical team during operative procedures.
Assists in maintaining correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges.
Maintains aseptic techniques and safety standards; actively monitors situations which could lead to breaches in aseptic technique.
Assists surgeons during operations by retracting tissues under direction.
Identifies and cares for specimens.
Attends regularly scheduled meetings for progress evaluation.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Enrollment in a WellSpan sponsored training program
BLS certification required
2 years in a healthcare environment preferred
