Unit Highlights

Nurses who work in the MedStar trauma department, care for the acutely ill, medically complex patient. Most of our patients arrive to MedStar via helicopter or ambulance following a traumatic event requiring immediate life-sustaining measures. The typical population includes patients who have been in a significant motor vehicle accident, gunshot wound, severe burn victim or life-threatening accident. We quicky and efficiently assess and stabilize the patient who arrives through our doors, typically by way of helicopter or ambulance.

MedStar is the pinnacle of clinical acuity at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. It is the place where critical care RN’s go to become expert trauma nurses. Here you will be exposed to a variety of specialized procedural nursing skills. The MedStar Clinical Nurse is highly organized, thrives under pressure and has significant clinical knowledge and assessment skills. Our nurses are capable of working safely and efficiently in a high stress, multifaceted environment. We are always motivated and committed to professional excellence.

MedStar trauma bays consist of (7) beds, equipped with the use of the latest technology and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

As a Clinical Nurse you will deliver proficient nursing care to patients and families whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex. You will identify current and potential complex problems of specific patient populations and critically analyzes trends and changes in patient status and plans appropriate interventions directly or indirectly through other nurses.

Qualifications

· ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.

· Two years of Critical Care RN experience preferred.

· Active DC RN License and BLS/ ACLS for Healthcare providers required.
