The Media Safety and Support Officer will support the management of programs in the field and also support the development of project work products, to include but not limited to, program timelines, budgets, reports, and other products/documents as identified.

Your Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, law, political science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience working in areas of project management or coordination in the fields of digital security or media development.
  • Experience working on donor-funded technical assistance, projects for media or civil society development, with a preference for USG-funded donor experience.
  • Knowledge and use of technology and systems including website management and digital security tools.
  • Preferred understanding of the key government stakeholders, relevant private sector actors, and civil society organizations working on media issues, including the dynamics and relationships among them.
  • Experience in the field of media support in Georgia, providing direct support to local civil society and media entities with the objective of strengthening their ability to identify, monitor, and counteract threats, is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural communication skills, and organizational skills.
  • Very good command of English Language and Georgian is required.
  • Strong representational and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate valid proof of unrestricted authorization to work in Georgia.

Your Daily Tasks

  • Coordinate the delivery of the Rapid Response Fund and all partner activities relating to digital and physical safety, including trainings, workshops, consultants, and grants.
  • Support Rapid Response Fund subgrants from call for proposals to selection to subgrant execution.
  • Support the Deputy Chief of Party in assessing the legal and operational environment.
  • Support the execution of planned workshops and training sessions.
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of safety and security activities on all objectives, in close alignment and coordination with project leadership.
  • Support interventions aimed at improving media safety, security and web/digital security, and supervise their implementation.
  • Coordinate the grant making process for urgent, rapid grants for partners in emergencies.
  • Support the development, facilitation and/or provision of direct trainings, workshops and meetings for local media entities to introduce and improve safety and security practices.
  • Foster strong collaboration and coordination with media sector actors to build trust, increase transparency, and direct engagement amongst all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution abilities.
  • Support the work of partners as directed by the Senior Content Manager such as overseeing deliverables, deadlines, and reviewing the quality of submitted work of partner grants.
  • Contribute to detailed approaches and work plans as well as contributing to quarterly and annual reporting, both for IREX internal reporting purposes and USAID.
  • Collaborate closely with the Deputy Chief of Party and other technical leads to manage the integration and coordination of technical contributions of other relevant partners.
  • Form strong and lasting partnerships with media entities to ensure local ownership and sustainability of the program.
  • Contribute to work planning process through evaluation of partner needs, documentation and ideas.
  • Provide relevant input and budget monitoring of training and subgrants activities, specifically related to Rapid Response Fund subgrants and safety/security activities.
  • Coordinate with the Deputy Chief of Party to maintain updated programmatic data in the project’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning system.
  • Foster strong collaboration and coordination with the relevant staff, as appropriate, to ensure program activities move forward in an efficient manner.
  • Manage technical work of consultants, partners, etc., ensuring completion of quality deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
