Amentum is actively seeking a Line Shaft and Damage Control Field Engineering Technician for International Fleet Support under the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) PMS 326 Follow-On Technical Support (FOTS) contract.

As the Line Shaft and Damage Control Field Engineering Technician, you will serve as a field service engineer for the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and testing of hull, mechanical, and electrical systems aboard Foreign Military Sales ships.

This position is a hybrid position requiring travel (work from CONUS location and travel to other sites).

Essential responsibilities and daily duties include:
  • Assist maintenance and support personnel supporting the Follow On Technical Support (FOTS) contract under NAVSEA PMS 326.
  • Support craft and ships sold to foreign Navies with fleet support of ships undergoing repairs, overhauls, and modernization conversions.
  • Perform ready-to-start and post-repair inspections and review of operational testing procedures.
  • Review maintenance and repair plans and work packages for technical correctness and feasibility.
    Conduct assessments such as ship visits to assess the material condition of shipboard systems.
    Conduct repairs or adjustments as needed as a technical SME.
  • Access, analyze, and provide recommended resolutions line shaft and main propulsion components.
  • Conduct initial development of work package for repair, overhaul, or maintenance of included systems.
    Supervise complex repairs for line shaft and/or damage control components.
  • Train crew and maintenance personnel in best maintenance and operations practices (focusing on foreign crews).


Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) years of progressive experience in the servicing of ship or submarine systems including the planning of the field services; four (4) years of that experience is required to have been obtained servicing hardware aboard ships or submarines.
  • Working knowledge of Damage Control (DC) systems including flood control, fire suppression, emergency breathing equipment, and other damage control equipment and systems.
  • Working knowledge of line shaft components, bearings, thrust bearings, reduction gears, controllable pitch propellors, lubrication, and shaft seal systems.
  • Must be able to perform physical work such as lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing into physically restrictive spaces on foreign military vessels to conduct shipboard work.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain an active United States Passport.
  • Ability to travel up to 75%, both CONUS and OCONUS. OCONUS sites may include Iraq, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, as well as Indo-Pacific Countries such as Philippines and Taiwan.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 13 years technical experience with maintenance of shipboard systems including line shaft, main-space, and damage control systems on USN or USCG ships, submarines or similar; and USN/USCG background as an E6 or above.
  • Welding certifications or qualifications.
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and integrated software application programs, including Navy systems and software applications.
