Designs, supports, manages, and executes culinary medicine, nutrition, and living style training, education, and clinical initiatives at MedStar Health through the MedStar Institute for Innovation. Includes curriculum design, strategy, planning, oversight, program strategy and day-to-day management of graduate medical education training and education in culinary medicine and nutrition in collaboration with leadership. Manages and provides clinical service in shared medical appointment programs in culinary medicine and lifestyle medicine in collaboration with MedStar Medical Group. Creates and maintains curriculum and content in culinary medicine and nutrition for graduate medical education trainees and clinical staff in all specialties. Maintains an accessible digital repository in culinary medicine and nutrition accessible to residency trainees. Design, creates, and maintains data collection systems to track efficacy of all culinary medicine training programs. Prepares grant funding requests related to culinary medicine.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree Nutrition-related discipline required
Experience
  • 5-7 years Greater than 5 years of experience in nutrition training for healthcare. required and
  • Experience with on-line education, virtual training, curriculum design, in-person presentations, and administrative and program management. Has personally delivered nutrition counseling to patients in group and individual settings and training in nutrition to clinical staff. Has organized and run large-scale virtual education programs in nutrition. required and
  • 8-10 years Media experience preferred and
  • 8-10 years Training in Plant-Based Culinary Medicine preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • RD - Registered Dietitian - Upon Hire required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of nutritional dimension of health. Communicates effectively with multiple audiences using a variety of formats. Must apply independent judgment to employ independent decision making solving real life challenges and identifying gaps and program needs. Ability to construct and deliver complex on-line curricula to large audiences. Very strong organizational and administrative abilities to manage large complex projects independently. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills. Strategic thinking and planning judgment.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Manages culinary medicine, nutrition, and living style curriculum creation, programming and delivery for training MedStar Health graduate trainees.
  • Designs, coordinates, and aligns culinary medicine and nutrition programming and training for MedStar associates across multiple sites. Maintains protocol implementation and training materials to adhere to policies and best practices for living style health initiatives.
  • Designs data collection strategies, develops and maintains training materials, develops strategies to align adequate staffing and resources for the achievement of program goals and objectives. Reports data related to activity and outcomes to the MI2 leadership. Revises offerings based on analysis and feedback.
  • Ensures coordination, synergy and integration with system-wide initiatives in nutrition, food as medicine, and culinary and lifestyle medicine for MedStar associates, trainees, and patients.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and business unit in community outreach efforts.
  • Integrates with leaders of culinary and lifestyle medicine and nutrition clinical programming across the MedStar Health system.
  • Interacts with front-line staff and entity leadership to promote and provide culinary medicine and nutrition programming and instruction.
  • Manages shared medical appointment programs in culinary and lifestyle medicine in collaboration with MedStar Medical Group. Serves as a content instructor and mentor for patients in shared medical appointments in culinary and lifestyle medicine and nutrition.
  • Leads efforts to access external grant funding of culinary medicine and nutrition programming
  • Teaches fundamentals of nutrition and culinary medicine to MedStar Health graduate medical education trainees to enable them to provide positive nutrition counseling to their patients that support health and wellbeing and minimize development of diet-driven disease.
  • Creates and maintains curriculum and content in culinary medicine and nutrition for graduate medical education trainees and clinical staff in all specialties.
  • Creates, curates and maintains an accessible digital repository in culinary and lifestyle medicine and nutrition and ensures accessibility to residency trainees.
  • Designs, creates, and maintains data collection systems to track efficacy of all culinary medicine training programs and to provide foundation for research in the field.
  • Conducts educational programs in nutrition and culinary medicine for Georgetown University Medical Students.
  • Keeps current with latest trends nationally in culinary and lifestyle medicine teaching and training for clinicians and patients.
  • Promotes MedStar Health externally as a leader in culinary and lifestyle medicine and nutrition in a manner consistent with organizational branding and messaging.
  • Represents MedStar Health at culinary lifestyle medicine conferences nationally.
  • Supports increased effectiveness by facilitating conversations that lead to greater awareness and action.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and entities in community outreach efforts.
