The Content and Training Officer will support the management of programs in the field and support the development of project work products, to include but not limited to, program timelines, budgets, reports, and other products/documents as identified.

Your Background & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, law, political science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of journalistic and editorial/managerial/training experience in Georgian media. Preferred experience includes conducting workshops and onsite consultations to TV, online, radio, and converged newsrooms; work experience in media as an Editor, Producer, and/or Journalist.
  • Experience in the field of media development in Georgia, providing direct support to local civil society and media entities with the objective of strengthening their ability to identify, monitor, and counteract threats.
  • Successful experience working on donor-funded technical assistance, projects for media or civil society development, with a preference for USG-funded donor experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the civil society and media landscape and environment in Georgia.
  • Preferred knowledge and use of interactive methods in developing curricula, training modules, and materials.
  • Preferred understanding of the key government stakeholders, relevant private sector actors, and civil society organizations working on media issues, including the dynamics and relationships among them.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural communication skills, and organizational skills.
  • Very good command of English Language and Georgian is required.
  • Strong representational and organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate valid proof of unrestricted authorization to work in Georgia.

Your Daily Tasks

  • Support the design and oversight of grants, workshops, and webinars for the media; supports coordination with partners and logistics to plan delivery of activities.
  • Support the process of grant announcement, issuance, and implementation.
  • Support the Senior Content and Training Manager in providing essential editorial and production consultations to grantees during the grant implementation process; this may include scheduling, follow-up, individual consultation with partners, or leading these efforts in place of the Senior Content and Training Manager.
  • Support the execution of planned workshops and training sessions.
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of training-related activities on all objectives, in close alignment and coordination with DCOP and Senior Content and Training Manager.
  • Support contextual adaptation of ways to improve journalism practices across Georgia’s media sector and develop relevant approaches, as appropriate, and supervise their implementation.
  • Support the development, facilitation and/or provision of direct trainings, workshops and townhalls for journalists, influencers, content producers, and local media entities to introduce and improve journalism practices.
  • Foster strong collaboration and coordination with media sector actors and communities to build public trust, increase transparency, and direct engagement amongst all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including conflict resolution abilities.
  • Support the work of partners as directed by the Senior Content and Training Manager such as overseeing deliverables, deadlines, and reviewing the quality of submitted work of partner grants.
  • Contribute to detailed approaches and work plans as well as contributing to quarterly and annual reporting, both for IREX internal reporting purposes and USAID.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Content and Training Manager and other technical leads to manage the integration and coordination of technical contributions of other relevant partners.
  • Form strong and lasting partnerships with media entities, influencers, and civil society actors to ensure local ownership and sustainability of the program.
  • Contribute to work planning process through evaluation of partner needs, documentation and ideas.
  • Provide relevant input and budget monitoring of training and grants activities under all objectives.
  • Coordinate with the Senior Content and Training Manager to maintain updated programmatic data in the project’s MEL system.
  • Foster strong collaboration and coordination with the relevant staff, as appropriate, to ensure program activities move forward in an efficient manner.
  • Support technical work of consultants, partners, etc., ensuring completion of quality deliverables in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
