JOB DESCRIPTION: The position of a Speech-Language Pathologist mainly entails delivering outpatient rehabilitation services, predominantly in a home setting for senior patients. The home environment may include a patient's private residence or a room in a supportive living or independent living community. Our program, Powerback Rehabilitation To You, situates the Speech-Language Pathologist to evaluate and aid in the patient's most practical environment: their home. The role involves organization and provision of speech-language services aimed at facilitating rehabilitation. The Pathologist is tasked with guiding patients through various tasks to restore, enhance, and reinforce their performance. By focusing on skills essential to communication and swallowing, the Pathologist seeks to reduce or remedy related disorders or deficits. The role is guided by principles promoting health, aligning with the profession's Code of Ethics. The position provides a flexible work environment and schedule across varied settings.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Supervising CFYs, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel as per state licensure guidelines and professional standards when necessary or applicable.
- Adhering to departmental schedules including patient treatment, clinical and billing documentation, as well as work-related meetings.
- Attending and contributing to patient care, staffing conferences, and other related meetings.
- Referring to other disciplines or agencies based on patients' comprehensive needs.
- Collaborating with rehabilitation team members and physicians to choose the most suitable treatment regimen for each patient.
- Adapting programs or care plans according to the individual needs of patients.
- Ensuring a safe environment and enforcing fire and safety hazard elimination.
- Ordering necessary supplies and equipment.
- Maintaining, identifying, and reporting the need for equipment repair.
- Prioritizing patient services to ensure that residents and families receive optimum service within a compassionate and caring atmosphere that respects individual needs and rights.
- Conducting patient screenings, evaluation, and diagnosis based on history, system reviews, and application of relevant tests and measures.

The role requires the ability to identify and report impairment, predict extent and duration of treatment required, identify precautions/ contradictions, and design a plan of care accordingly. Services primarily include application of therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive-communication, speech intelligibility, oral motor skills, swallowing disorders/dysphagia, perceptual abilities, orientation, memory, pragmatics, psychosocial expression, functional communication, and case management skills in the home and community.

REQUIREMENTS:

- A valid license as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of practice or proof of license eligibility.
- Eligibility for a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or participation as an ASHA Clinical Fellow.
- Valid driver’s license or dependable, independent means of commuting to and from patient residences.
