Job Responsibility:
As part of your role as a City Year AmeriCorps member, your primary focus will be to guide and mentor students from elementary, middle and/or high school. Your responsibility will include helping these students achieve academic success, better their attendance, learn emotional intelligence, and encourage positive conduct in school. Keeping track of individual student progress and working in conjunction with teachers to improve general instruction, establish breakout spaces, and provide in-class student aid will be amongst your key duties.

Role and Responsibilities:
Previous experience in these tasks is not mandatory. We conduct 2-4 weeks of comprehensive training at the beginning of the year to equip you appropriately for your role. Moreover, you will receive constant support from partner teachers and school staff throughout your service.

Promotion of academic coaching and emotional growth for students:

- Provide 1:1 and group coaching to identified students
- Enhance literacy/math skills via tailored learning activities, address student queries, and push assignment completion
- Establish and execute a student behaviour management system
- Foster emotional intelligence by employing proven strategies of learning, practicing, reflection, and repetition
- Collaborate with teachers and team members to gather, document, scrutinize, and monitor individual student progress
- Create a dynamic, safe, and healthy classroom environment cooperating with teachers

Contribute to Whole School initiatives to bolster engagement with students and families:

- Organize and/or manage extended and virtual programs for students' all-round development including, but not limited to, academic enrichment, assignment assistance, recreational activities, and leadership training
- Appreciate and acknowledge student growth and/or achievement in academic and behavioural aspects, engaging students, parents/guardians and community members in pertinent social or educational issues

Eligibility Criteria:

- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. (Authorization to work in the U.S. is not enough. Individuals with DACA status are currently not eligible.)
- Possess a high school diploma, GED, or college certificate/degree
- Should not have served more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
