SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Programs and Services, the Executive Director of Student Success manages current and future grant funded programs. The Executive Director of Student Success plays a vital role in the planning, execution, and evaluation of the various student programs and activities supported by the Student Success department. In this role they are responsible for the coordination and implementation of the day-to-day activities, planning, development and maintenance of partner relationships, recruitment, and contracts associated with these programs. The Executive Director of Student Success will also work collaboratively with other HACU staff to lead the implementation of new programs. In their role, the Executive Director of Student Success provides strategic direction for the department and implements plans for programs that align with the organization's mission and goals. This includes managing all activities related to current programs as well as exploring and implementing new programs and initiatives as they relate to the Student Success department and the goals and objective of Programs and Services department.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Master's degree in Education, Education Administration, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university required; Doctorate preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in student affairs, program development, or a related professional position within a higher education setting, with at least three years of leadership and management experience within a related role.
  • Candidate must demonstrate a breadth of diverse leadership capabilities and qualifications including the ability to collaborate with peers, coach and develop subordinates, and design work methods that encourage staff to work cooperatively, to achieve meaningful outcomes and support HACU's culture, mission, and values.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Must be proactive, organized, and professional, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and engage with internal and external stakeholders, community partners, and groups from diverse backgrounds. Spanish language proficiency preferred, but not required.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, data collection tools, and other virtual meeting tools is required (i.e., Zoom, forms, presentations, infographics, database creation, maintenance, and management, and report generation.)
  • Strong knowledge of higher education issues affecting Hispanics in education and/or experience working with nonprofit organizations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze and interpret complex quantitative and qualitative data and translate findings into actionable insights for program development.
  • Experience in budget management, reporting, and resource allocation to ensure financial objectives are met and effectively manage grant funds.
  • Experience in the grant proposal and development process, including writing, editing, coordinating submissions, managing grant portfolios, tracking progress, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports to senior leadership, sponsors, and other stakeholders on program progress and achievements.
  • Experience in strategic planning and assessment.
  • Demonstrated organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously within the prescribed time frame.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work collaboratively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, and administrative staff to ensure the fulfillment of HACU's mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Supervise all activities and staff in Student Success, providing strategic direction for the department.
  • Foster the development of cross-functional teamwork to ensure high quality and timely delivery of program and grant deliverables.
  • Provide program, project and administrative support to ensure that departmental goals and objectives are accomplished.
  • Develop the overall planning, implementation, marketing, and recruitment of grant funded programs.
  • Improve and expand targeted year-round recruitment efforts for activities and prospective new members.
  • Communicate with corporate liaisons on a regular basis and respond promptly to requests.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with new and current college and university administrators, faculty, and staff to promote Student Services and Success programs.
  • Oversee the management of programs and activities to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished on time for each program.
  • Develop, coordinate, and facilitate staff led events, workshops, presentations, and information sessions for conferences and events.
  • Review and analyze up-to-the-minute data regarding Student Success programming. Synthesize findings into useful format for use by the President, other HACU staff, and Sponsors.
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President for Programs and Services, and the Executive Director of Student Success, conducts program debriefs with department to review event results versus expectations, create space for a mutual exchange of feedback, identify opportunities for development and recommendations, and establish best practices.
  • Prepare final reports for Sponsors and HACU president.
  • Develop and monitor evaluation plans to assess the effectiveness of Student Success programs and initiatives, making data-driven adjustments as needed.
  • Prepare all communication materials regarding programs and Student Success such as program brochures, official letters, press releases, background papers, reports, and other written information.
  • Search for grant opportunities for member institutions, HSIs, HSSDs, and other student success programs.
  • Collaborate with the Development department in the preparation and submission of grant proposals.
  • Ensure department-related web content is updated on a regular basis.
  • Evaluate and streamline current processes.
  • Report on and update the strategic plan as it relates to goals pertinent to the Student Success department.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities for assigned personnel. These duties are to be carried out in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable federal and state laws. Responsibilities would include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Must be available to travel as needed throughout the year, up to 20%.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Employee will work a standard of 40 hours a week; however, longer hours may be necessary at times.
  • Development activities, Conferences and events may take place in hotel and/or convention center settings and require longer hours of work on a constantly changing schedule, including work on weekends and evenings.
  • Working conditions are in an office environment.
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 25 pounds.

  • Positions self to perform essential functions of the job in an office setting.
