Salary Range: $175,500-$235,000


At Midland States Bank, base salary is one component of our Total Rewards program. Exact compensation is determined by factors such as (but not limited to) education, skills, internal equity, and experience. This position offers additional compensation in the form of short-term incentives (i.e. bonus and/or commission) and may include long-term incentives (i.e. stock awards). Benefits for this role include comprehensive healthcare, well-being benefits, paid family leave as well as generous paid time off. Position Summary


This position is directly responsible to the Chief Credit Officer of the Bank to provide senior level management, administrative or credit underwriting and approval. The Regional Credit officer is responsible for providing a leadership role including strategic responsibilities within the Region. Persons in this role will operate with independence. The position will enhance shareholder value, in accordance with the goals and policies established by the Board of Directors and procedures implemented by the management of the bank.

Primary Accountabilities


  • Reviews and approves loan requests within designated credit authority, ensuring compliance with bank policies and risk guidelines. Monitors credit quality across the region, including past dues, ticklers, loan grading, criticized/classified loans, and charge-offs.
  • Leads and maintains the overall credit quality and culture for the assigned region. Ensures alignment with the institution’s risk appetite while supporting growth and profitability.
  • Partners with the Regional Market President and Relationship Managers to identify suitable credit opportunities, recommend appropriate loan structures, and ensure terms are in line with bank policy.
  • Accompanies Relationship Managers on visits to key customers or prospects, particularly large or complex borrowers, to provide expert insight and support.
  • Collaborates with senior management to develop and implement regional credit strategies that align with the bank’s long-term goals. Leads regional efforts in addressing evolving credit policies, market conditions, and regulatory changes.
  • Reviews loan requests exceeding credit authority and provides recommendations to the Chief Credit Officer or the Director’s Credit Risk Committee for further approval.
  • Counsels Credit Analysts to ensure accurate borrower analysis and effective preparation of credit approval documentation.
  • Stays ahead of banking industry trends, regulatory changes, and evolving business practices to guide strategic decisions.
  • Maintains awareness of any legal or regulatory updates that could impact credit operations.
  • Serves on committees of the bank as requested by the Chief Credit Officer.
  • Represent the bank in a professional, ethical, and moral manner to promote the institution in the communities it serves.
  • The role requires occasional travel for training and team meetings, and willingness to travel periodically, to locations within market as needed.
  • May require work in a Midland office to ensure collaboration and support of internal and external customers.
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations including, but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications

Education:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field complimentary to the position.
  • Extensive formal lending training with a proven record of performance.
  • Minimum of 10 years of banking and lending experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a credit approval, relationship management, special assets, managerial or administrative role.
  • Proven ability to make complex credit decisions within established risk frameworks.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices within the financial services industry.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
