Overview
  • Laboratory Techniques and Procedures: Understand the basics of genetic testing procedures, including sample preparation, DNA extraction, PCR amplification, and sequencing.
  • Data Analysis and Interpretation: Collaborate with staff scientists to aid in the analysis of genetic test results. Learn to classify variants identified by genetic testing.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Participate in quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. Learn about regulatory requirements and compliance in genetic testing.
  • Research Support: Contribute to ongoing research projects within the laboratory, which may include literature reviews, experimental design, data collection, and analysis under the guidance of senior researchers.

Responsibilities

Education & experience:

  • Current enrollment as an undergraduate student in a relevant field (e.g., biology, genetics, molecular biology).

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Strong interest in genetics and a desire to pursue a career in genetic counseling, clinical genetics, laboratory genetics or a related healthcare field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in science and medicine, particularly for underrepresented populations.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

Prior laboratory experience or coursework in molecular biology, genetics, or related disciplines is desirable but not required.
