Overview

The Senior Research Assistant will perform work in these areas. Attentiveness to detail in performing experiments and rodent handling experience are required. A strong background in biology and the understanding of molecular neuroscience and statistics are preferred. The Senior Research Assistant will perform experiments individually and as a member of a research team. Occasionally the work will occur on weekends. Good communication and support of other members of the lab will be necessary. The Guizzetti lab provides a supportive environment for future growth of the applicant. Participation in scientific presentations and publications is encouraged.

GENERAL FOCUS OF THIS POSITION: Work directly under a Principal Investigator. Tasks to be performed as part of this position: sample processing, assays, cell/tissue culture, animal studies, library research, data collection, data analysis, developing new methods, and troubleshooting existing methods.

GENERAL SCOPE OF THIS POSITION: Oversees the design of research studies, procedures, and day to day operations in support of research goals and grant commitments. Monitors the results, responds to unusual outcomes, develops and implements modifications to address any technical or design issues. With expert knowledge of research practices, directs and teaches others the methodology/ Standard Operating Procedures.


Responsibilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree (4 yr) with major courses in field of research AND 1 year of relevant experience OR
  • equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience in Western blot analysis and/or ELISA
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridization.
  • Handling/treating mice
  • Strong scientific and technical background in molecular and cellular biology.
  • Strong work ethic

Qualifications
  • Primary brain cell culture.
  • Data analysis/R coding
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • An interactive personality
