Overview

Phone Scheduling – answering scheduling phone line for the department of Orthopaedic Department. Phone scheduling includes scheduling patients for visits, procedures, and surgeries. Taking messages for phone triage and routing to the appropriate clinical staff and other administrative calls. Surgery scheduling in-patient and out-patient surgeries as per OHSU and department policies.
Managed Care – verifying and obtaining insurance information. Obtaining authorizations for office visits, procedures, and surgery.
Other Support - Process miscellaneous communication, coverage for front desk as assigned, collaborate with other PAS Resource Specialists to ensure/create efficient processes and other duties as assigned.


Responsibilities
  • One year of experience in a medical office setting, including high-volume direct patient contact, scheduling of
    appointments and obtaining managed care authorizations.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of PAS policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated advanced PAS user skills as well as extensive knowledge of integrated care at OHSU.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
  • Proficiency with MS Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Thorough knowledge of electronic patient scheduling programs.
  • Experience with database entry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in confrontational customer interactions.
  • Effectively deal with highly emotional needs of surgical patients and individuals
  • Managed care (using E.A.R.L. to process all Managed Care; expert in working
  • Referrals Received and Referrals to Submit reports.)
  • Strong team/collaborative skills.
  • Ability to problem solve within a team environment
  • Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills.

Qualifications
  • Orthopaedic Spine Experience
  • Surgery Department Experience
  • Experience with Diagnostic Authorizations
  • Minimum of 6 months experience with high volume, multi –line phone system
  • Knowledge of OHSU system software including EPIC, Op- time, and electronic eligibility systems (i.e. Veripoint).
  • Experience with surgical scheduling procedures, surgery authorization processes, and hospital admission policies/procedures within an orthopedic environment.
