Overview

Middle School program execution -

  • Assume key responsibility for the day to day operation of the middle school program, which includes preparation and leading of in-classroom outreach lessons, direct communication with teachers, principals, and other community stakeholders, administration and organization of program surveys, coordinating room reservations and food orders, organizing all components of middle school field trips to OHSU, contributing to communications and program marketing materials, program evaluation support including following IRB requirements, maintaining middle school photo/media archives, and collaborating with SEO team on funding/grant proposal development. Approximately 35 events per school year.
  • Supervise volunteers for middle school events, including recruitment, training, communicating and coordinating with different groups about logistics and responsibilities, and monitoring volunteers during events. Volunteers include high school students, PSU students, and OHSU students and staff. Assist Program Director in volunteer recruitment, training and organization for high school events.
  • Maintain existing and assist in cultivating new partnerships that result in sustainable support for On Track OHSU! initiatives and expansion. Current partnering organizations include Jefferson Middle College for Advanced Studies, Faubion Pk-8 School, Vernon K-8 School, Harriet Tubman Middle School, Ockley Green Middle School (Portland Public Schools), Woodburn High School, French Prairie Middle School, Valor Middle School, (Woodburn School District), Parkrose Middle School, Parkrose High School ( Parkrose School District), Warm Springs K-8 Academy and Madras High School, Roots Academy, Warm Springs K-8 Academy (Jefferson County School District 509J), Chiloquin Jr./Sr. High School, Chiloquin Elementary (Klamath County Schools), Warm Springs Tribal Education Committee other K-12 school districts, OHSU departments, Portland Metro STEM Partnership, PSU Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program, and other partnering organizations.
  • Assist SEO team in developing and offering a cohesive and thorough progression of On Track OHSU! and other programs so that all students have access to OHSU education opportunities. Continue to update On Track’s programming to be more culturally relevant for all communities. Participate as time and interests allow in OHSU’s Science Outreach and Resources (SOAR) committee, boards or working groups tied to STEM education.

Responsibilities

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration, or a field directly related to the position will substitute for two years of the required experience.
  • Driver’s License and reliable transportation to communities across Oregon required.

Experience:

  • Five years of experience with responsibility for program or project monitoring and coordination. The experience must have included program evaluation responsibility.
  • Note: preference may be given to individuals with experience in a specialty area specific to the position opening.

  • High level of comfort and experience working with various audiences including school district leaders, teachers, students, higher education faculty, staff, community partners and leaders, donors, and visitors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of engaging middle school students.
  • Evidence of commitment to the highest levels of customer service and teamwork within a workplace setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment to initiate and execute ideas.
  • Understanding of child protection issues in school and non-school settings.
  • Ability to work with groups from different backgrounds, ethnicities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Superior interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels in organizations (teachers, school leadership, students, university faculty, volunteers).
  • Sensitivity to issues of student confidentiality, research ethics, and minors as research subjects.
  • Precision, attention to detail. · Demonstrated competency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Demonstrated experience managing volunteers and/or student workers.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, access and OHSU’s goal to be an anti-racist institution.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Advanced study in Leadership, Education, STEM subject area or another relevant focus.

Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience collaborating with historically marginalized populations.
  • 3 years’ experience working with school aged students, preference for students in grades 6-8.
