Position Summary
The PSU Food Pantry is one of the largest pantries in the Portland Metro region distributing upwards of 10,000 pounds of food to The Food Pantry Coordinator oversees the PSU Food Pantry’s programs including the main pantry, mini-pantries, and monthly Free Food Market.
The Coordinator is responsible for developing student employees and personnel-related tasks for up to a dozen student employees and up to 100 volunteers annually. This position is responsible for operations and logistics such as food sourcing, handling, and safety compliance. The Food Pantry Coordinator oversees outreach and communication to campus and community partners and donors while working to increase utilization of the Pantry and improve food security for Portland State students. Additionally, this position oversees the budget, spending, and ethical fiscal stewardship.

Minimum Qualifications
  • BA/BS with 3+ years of related experience or Master’s with 1+ year of related experience
  • Demonstrable understanding of food security in general or college student food security specifically
  • Working knowledge of developing trainings or workshops
  • Experience working with diverse college students in a university or college environment
  • Scheduling flexibility to meet student organization needs (some early mornings, nights, and weekends)
  • Experience with safe food handling standards
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds repeatedly for up to four hours
  • Ability to push a minimum of 300 pounds on a cart for moderate distances, sometimes uphill
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license (or ability and willingness to acquire one upon hire)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in relevant field with 1+ year of related experience
  • Experience in supervising and general management of a food pantry or other food security initiative
  • Knowledge and expertise in principles, concepts, and practices of higher education/student affairs.
  • Leadership or student development knowledge and experience.
  • Program management, project management, or event planning experience
  • Experience supervising student employees or comparable experience
  • Experience with group facilitation, lesson plan development, or teaching.
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Experience working with a foundation or fundraising.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.

Work Days/Hours40 hours per week. Scheduled hours can range from 7am to 7pm Mon-Fri; some evenings/nights and weekends required for supporting pantry operations and department events.
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.
The starting annual salary for this position will be $54,684, but may be negotiated above this rate dependent upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
