Overview

ADVOCACY FOR Impacted Parties of Discrimination Harassment, or Sexual Misconduct
This position is responsible for effective collaboration among campus partners in providing trauma-informed response to disclosures of sexual misconduct, bias and discrimination, or retaliation based on protected class. Role includes the following:

  • Develops, enhances, and provides impacted party-centered advocacy and support services to members of the OHSU campus community who have experienced sexual misconduct, bias or discrimination, and protected class
    related retaliation.
  • Provides immediate support and resources for impacted parties and their allies in a confidential and supportive environment and helps impacted parties and others understand their options in reporting any form of bias, discrimination, or harassment.
  • Advocacy efforts are conducted through a trauma-informed lens, as well as understanding the importance of inclusivity in working with culturally diverse, traditionally marginalized groups, including the intersectionality of identities.
  • Provides help connecting impacted parties to campus or community resources, programs, and services.
  • Serves as a liaison between the impacted party and various campus offices, including crisis intervention counseling and ongoing counseling; information on victim rights and options, including referrals to additional support services; and information on legal services, and the availability of restraining and/or no-contact orders.
  • Implements current best practices in the support of impacted parties through medical advocacy, criminal justice advocacy, university advocacy, and safety planning.
  • Provides advocacy support and referrals for impacted parties’ friends, family members, and university employees for both the response and recovery processes.
  • Provide direct services, training, and support (in person and tel services) at all OHSU locations. In person services will be provided at Portland Metro area locations.
  • Assist with resource development, and updating of websites, training, and or other written and or on-line materials.
  • Assist with designing and maintaining forms, as well as the creation and distribution of marketing materials and outreach tools.
  • Assist with compilation, editing, and distribution of publications and written materials, collaborate with OCIC team members to guide the design, content, tone, cultural & language appropriateness, and professional standards of these publications.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting, and analysis in compliance with deadlines.
  • Assist with quarterly reports and other strategic communications.
  • Represent CAP at meetings, conferences, and events as needed.

TRAINING AND OUTREACH

  • In collaboration with the Director of CAP-E, implements training and professional development curricula as well as opportunities to expand training for faculty, staff, students, and community members to increase understanding of trauma stewardship throughout the campus community.
  • Maintains relationships with local community-based survivor support organizations to assist with advocacy and referral efforts.
  • At the direction of the Director of CAP-E, collaborates with the campus Title IX Coordinator and Director for Prevention and Education to develop and provide outreach-based educational activities regarding violence to the campus community including engaging culturally diverse and undeserved impacted parties.
  • Plans, organizes, and promotes awareness month activities; such as domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault awareness months.

Responsibilities

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional experience in Human Services, Student Affairs, Counseling or Social Work or in a related field.

Experience:

  • 3 years’ experience in the provision of trauma-informed response services on a college campus or similar agency experience.
  • 3 years’ experience in advocacy or counseling program, or equivalent leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of current best practices in responding to interpersonal trauma and campus-related sexual violence, bias and discrimination.
  • Demonstrated ability to use clear and independent judgment, make ethical decisions regarding case
    management, and develop individualized approaches for each impacted party.
  • Possess or be willing to obtain within 3 months of hire required state-level certifications for campus advocacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with campus, community, state-wide, and national partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, social justice, and the creation of inclusive environments at OHSU.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies):

  • The ability to manage multiple, complex priorities and needs in an organized fashion, including responding to impacted parties in crisis.
  • Advanced public speaking skills, and the ability to connect to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience with intersection of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking with other issues such as struggles faced by queer communities, communities of color, marginalized, and under- served groups.
  • Experience facilitating training and educational workshops for employees and campus/community stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with gender violence prevention education.
  • Familiarity with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) intervention and education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively speak and write in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening abilities coupled with the skill to analyze complex issues and present clear and logical recommendations.
  • Ability and skills to analyze and interpret problems while developing strategies for conflict resolution.
  • Fluent with technology, including but not limited to the use of computers and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Ability to effectively work with hostile and emotional individuals in a compassionate, professional, and courteous manner and to manage situations involving intense conflict.
  • Ability to maintain positive working relationships between people with competing interests.
  • Ability to represent OHSU in a competent and professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional relationships with customers and co-workers in dealing with sensitive, complex civil rights, legal, and human resource issues and situations involving employees, students, and patients.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in human services, Student Affairs, Counseling or Social Work and two years of professional experience in related field.
