Field Sales/VMI
I. FUNCTIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Purpose
To promote and facilitate the sale of mining supplies to core and target accounts within the territory associated with the assigned branch.
Primary Functions
• Market planning and research to determine the opportunities available with the core and target accounts within each territory.
• Work with branch managers and associated Company personnel to promote the various product lines to the core and target accounts within each territory.
• Develop action plans for each territory to capture a major share of the core and target business. Solicit branch management's assistance in plan implementation.
• Call upon and visit customer sites on a daily basis to ascertain customer needs, take orders, promote current and new product offerings and foster good relationships with mine-level personnel.
· Maintain Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) at specific customer job sites. Ascertain inventory levels and keep stocked at prescribed Min-Max levels.
• Work with Inventory Control regarding stock levels, obsolete inventory, etc.
Additional Functions
• Work with Purchasing and branch management to develop standard (list) and specific (quoted) pricing of specific products.
• Work with Purchasing and management on the selection and retention of vendors as per customer requirements.
• Attend and participate in company meetings, industry conferences and conventions as requested by management.
· Maintain current product information and coordinate its distribution and availability to the appropriate personnel.
· Audit customer orders for proper pricing.
· Travel underground when necessary to troubleshoot problems, complete surveys, or make a sale.
· Field Salesperson should have input and or responsibility for budgeting and forecasting his products.
Required Equipment
• Company Computer System
• Standard Office Equipment
• Equipment used in demonstrating and selling of specific products
• Standard vehicles not requiring special licenses
Minimum Required Qualifications
• College degree (business related field preferred) or equivalent experience.
• General understanding of the mine supply business.
• Knowledge and expertise with the various mining supply lines.
• Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
Required Communication
Communicate verbally to management, customers and company employees through presentations and reports. Report monthly to Vice President of Sales on productivity (sales, orders, etc.) and activities (training, customer calls, surveys, etc,).
II. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Physical Demands
• Requires extended periods of sitting and standing.
• Be able to lift varying weights up to fifty pounds and carry a distance of twenty yards.
• Be able to climb up and down trucks, ladders, shelving, etc.
· Work in underground mining environment.
· Conduct surveys, etc.
Working Environment
• Work in a store/warehouse environment with merchandise in various stages of resale.
• Work in varying temperatures according to seasonal changes.
· Accompany customers/venders to underground work locations in effort to troubleshoot problems and/or promote specific products for sale.
Safety Requirements
• Responsible to follow company safety policies designed to prevent accidents and promote employee health.
• It is required to report all accidents to the supervisor according to company policy.
Possible Work Hazards
• Work around fast pace store/warehouse while heavy and large merchandise is being moved.
• Frequently work around heavy equipment.
• In any industrial setting there is a constant need to be aware of a consistently changing environment.
• Work at mine sites with heavy machinery operated by persons not in the employment of this company.
III. PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS
Work Location
• The primary work location will be considered the assigned branch location. However, the true work location will be determined by the branch action plan for the branch being worked at any given time.
• Other locations as company needs dictate and/or supervisors request.
Work Schedules
• Scheduling will be determined by the supervisor based on company needs.
• Normal work hours are 7 AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday, weekends as required.
· All employees are expected to work the necessary hours required to meet or exceed company goals.
Accountabilities
• Accountable for the results of the branch action plan as it pertains to sales, gross margin, inventory turns, obsolete or slow moving inventory, etc.
• Accountability for maintaining confidentiality concerning sales, pricing policies and procedures, customer lists, credit information, correspondence and any other information which might be harmful to the company, customers or other employees if revealed.
· Maintain vendor managed inventory at prescribed levels at assigned customer locations.
