Job Overview

The Sr. Advanced Structural Engineer plays a critical role in providing technical direction for structural assessments and design decisions related to a groundbreaking new business jet turbofan engine. This role will involve overseeing sections of the structural design for an engine module, conducting and leading analysis, development, and testing for static structural elements. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in executing complex structural analyses, such as finite element analysis, classic mechanics handbook calculations, fracture mechanics, fatigue, thermal impacts, creep, buckling, bolted connections, clearances, and modal and forced vibration. Prior experience with gas turbine engines is essential to establish a fundamental knowledge base for product design and technical leadership. 

Key Responsibilities

- Uphold overall integrity of the static structure elements and systems
- Lead or assist in coordinating the efforts of structural analysis teams locally, internationally, and with 3rd party outsourcing
- Communicate clearly with manufacturers, suppliers, customers, chief engineers, and upper management
- Conduct reviews of all static structures analyses to verify compliance with design criteria, guidelines, and practices
- Ensure clear presentation of analysis results during design reviews and comprehensively document results in reports to meet program deliverables and requirements
- Guide efficient testing planning, implementation, and validation
- Conduct component analyses
- Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers
- Lead or contribute to process improvement teams for technology advancement and engineering process enhancement

Requirements

To comply with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or hold protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status.

Qualifications You Must Possess

- A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline such as sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics from an accredited institution
- Minimum 6 years of relevant experience

Added Value Qualifications

- A Master's degree in an engineering discipline
- Prior experience with gas turbine engines and system-level knowledge
- Expert knowledge and application of solid mechanical principles, dynamics, fatigue, and finite element analysis
- Proficiency in performing complex analyses using FEA software and traditional hand calculations for engine structural components and systems
- Advanced proficiency with ANSYS Workbench and/or APDL
- Experience in mechanical component & systems testing and validation
- Experience in CAD modelling of mechanical components (2D/3D). Proficiency with Siemens NX software is preferred
- Experience with topological optimisation of static structural components for minimum weight
- Familiarity with DOORS for requirements management
- Experience with composite materials analysis is a plus
- Excellent communication skills to enable effective interaction with engineering teams, other disciplines, and customers
- Knowledge of Six Sigma tools and their application
