We are seeking a highly motivated, self-directed individual with a minimum of 5 -10 years' experience, as a lathe setup expert. Prime responsibilities include setup and operation of five-axis CNC Lathes and Swiss machines. Must be able to read blueprints and capable of doing first article inspection. You will be required to do multiple setups each day, including adjusting tool lengths and offsets as necessary. When operating you will be required to assemble and preset tooling for subsequent operations during automated cycles to reduce machine downtime. Experience with machining stainless steel, brass, and aluminum is required. Practical knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometry required. Five-axis programming experience is a plus.

CNC Lathe Setup/Operator sets up and operates a variety of lathe machines to perform machine operations including turning, boring, facing, and threading parts by performing the following duties.

Summary of essential job functions
  • Set-up and operate numerically controlled lathe machines to perform machining operations including turning, boring, facing, and threading parts such as castings, forgings, bar stock, etc.
  • Read process sheets, set-up sheets, blueprints, and sketches to determine requirements, dimensional specifications, set-up, and operating procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and correct machine programs.
  • Select, verify, and install preset tooling in tool posts, turret or indexing heads in sequence specified on process sheet.
  • Compare numerical display on control panel with routing sheet to verify dimensional adjustment, feed rates, and speed of machining cuts.
  • Inspect first piece and submit to Quality Control for approval.
  • Check succeeding pieces for conformance to specifications using micrometer and precision dial gauges.
  • Maintain company production and quality standards.
  • Change tooling as necessary.
  • Report unusual conditions or problems to supervisor.
  • This position includes all other responsibilities that may be necessary to fulfill the duties associated with the position or as may be assigned.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma
  • Equivalent to complete, accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical school
  • Use of some advanced shop mathematics, formulas
  • Use of adjustable measuring instruments and advanced quality control equipment.
  • Has knowledge in blueprint reading of complicated drawings, specifications and charts/tables
  • Minimum of 5 -10 years' experience as a setup operator in a manufacturing environment
  • Dependable and has a great attitude
