Summary

SUMMARY: Under direction of the VP PCS Administrative Services directs the activities and services of the Clinical Education Department, ensuring that responsibilities and activities are carried out in accordance with AHS policies and procedures; plans, organizes, coordinates and administers AHS clinical education programs. Performs related duties as required.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

1. Assesses clinical education needs of AHS staff and management through investigation, consultation and evaluation of requests for education programs;

2. Assists managers and supervisors in establishing programs; monitors and evaluates educational programs.

3. Utilizes theory, clinical expertise, evidence-based standards of practice to design, plan, implement, and evaluate clinical excellence affecting bedside care delivery and nursing practice.

4. Facilitate updates to nursing practice guidance, professional development, standardization of clinical roles and practice across the system by ensuring the appropriate translation of evidence based care into daily practice throughout the health system continuum.

5. Facilitate to improve practice efficiency and patient outcomes with the system through broad expertise in the delivery of nursing professional practice, including models for care delivery and models of professional practice.

6. Remains current of new trends and best practices and incorporates into Nursing Excellence practices and programs.

7. Incorporates the use of evidence-based practice and appreciative enquiry into program development and improvement activities

8. Ensures development and implementation of Nursing Excellence initiatives to improve patient satisfaction and family centered care.

9. Collaborates with senior leadership to identify and develop organizational goals and objectives in nursing.

10. Develops and implements professional development models for Nursing Excellence and Professional development programs system wide, in collaboration with organizational development, clinical education, nursing, and other identified stakeholders.

11. Coordination with nursing, quality and education initiatives through collaboration to promote nursing sensitive outcomes by identifying trends in nursing, coordinating action plan, and driving change and accountability.

12. Responsible for the development of nursing inquiry and research activities across AHS to promote knowledge gain, translation into practice and peer review initiatives.

13. Ability to facilitate teams, create, implement, and measure large complex projects in an integrated health system utilizing strong analytic coaching, communication, leadership, and management skills.

14. Reviews and meets ongoing competency requirements of the role to maintain the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform, within scope, role specific functions.

15. Design, maintain, oversee and evaluate an annual professional development program initiative and budget for training opportunities.

16. Facilitate trainings, design workshops, and outsource to external trainers (including developing RFPs and negotiating rates) as appropriate.

17. Oversee development and implementation of both non-credit and credit programs for professional audiences.

18. Assist and facilitate the nursing shared governance councils in different level.

19. Consults with management and external educational institutions to establish curricula needed for adequate career development programs; provides information to employees regarding opportunities for self-development available in the community.

20. Develop and revise standard of care for nursing in collaboration with multidiscipline team.

21. Develops and maintains a library of education source materials; keeps abreast of new developments in education methods and concepts.

22. Develops, administers and monitors AHS clinical education budget.

23. Develops, schedules, coordinates and participates in clinical education programs designed to improve employee skills. May conduct education programs or select other qualified individuals or agencies to provide instructions.

24. Maintains records of clinical education programs, activities and employee participation and attendance.

25. Plans, develops, recommends and coordinates a comprehensive management education program for all levels of AHS management.

26. Serve as an advocate and resource for staff and colleagues, to promote the ongoing need and growth of nursing research and evidence-based practice: serves as a resource for nursing staff on professional practice standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Doctorate of Nursing Practice/ PHD preferred

Education: Master Degree in Nursing required.

Minimum Experience: Five years experience in clinical education.

Experience must include planning, conducting, or directing a medical/nursing or clinical education program within a multi-site system environment

Preferred Experience with change management, project management, and leading in Magnet or Pathway to Excellence organizations

Required Licenses/Certifications: ACLS Instructor preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support Certification issued by the American Heart Association preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS Instructor preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
