Accountant 4 (Hybrid)

Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid: 2 days onsite per week)

Pay Rate: $30-$50/hour

Job Type: Temporary (3 months)

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Accountant 4 to join our dynamic team on a temporary basis. This role involves working with advanced accounting concepts and systemwide organizational objectives to resolve highly complex issues affecting financial compliance and reporting. We are seeking a Senior Accountant with strong account reconciliation, variance analysis, and Excel skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Systems Development: Participate in developing and implementing systemwide financial information, payroll, personnel, and general ledger systems.
  • Reconciliations: Independently prepare highly complex reconciliations of Federal, State, and University funds. Consolidate general ledger data from multiple campuses and prepare associated reconciliations and journal entries.
  • Compliance: Monitor financial compliance with Federal and State regulations and University policies using data analytics. Provide training and assistance on various financial information systems.
  • Audit: Assist in responding to financial audit requests from internal and external auditors.
  • Financial Management Reports: Independently prepare highly complex financial management reports from multiple campus and information systems for senior leaders. Maintain and update the chart of accounts.
  • Federal Reports: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual Federal reports, including Agricultural Experiment Station Funds and Special Project Funds.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • At least six years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial compliance.
  • Proven ability to perform and coordinate complex accounting functions and analyze large volumes of financial data.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience with financial systems and tools for transaction processing, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and standard office applications.

Preferred Skills:

  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA).
