Position Summary:

The Senior Associate, Benefits will perform a variety of functions including the coordination and implementation of National Audubon Society’s health, welfare, and retirement programs with direction and support from the Senior Manager, Benefits Administration.


The Senior Associate, Benefits will serve as a key resource for Audubon’s workforce of 700+ full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees in the area of health, welfare, and retirement benefits.


The Senior Associate will be hybrid and may be based in Washington, DC or New York, NY.


Compensation:


Salary range based on geo-differentials:


  • $70,000-$80,000/year = Washington, DC

  • $79,000-$89,000/year = New York, NY


  • Essential Functions
  • Work closely with the Senior Manager, Benefits Administration on the implementation of health and welfare initiatives that build a culture of wellness, enforcing healthy behaviors and optimizing healthcare costs.

  • Facilitate employee benefits orientation and develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company’s benefits package including contributions to the monthly People & Culture newsletter.

  • Support annual open enrollment event including HRIS updates, employee webinar facilitation, communication plans, and carrier updates.

  • Effectively communicate with employees and external customers in a timely manner to respond to questions and provide information related to Audubon’s benefits, policies, and programs.

  • Manage the initial Worker’s Compensation submission of claims and Leave of Absence (LOA) claim management and reporting as needed.

  • Coordinate with the Senior Associate, HRIS and Payroll for benefit payroll inputs and maintain back-up documentation to include commuter benefits, leave of absence payments, and benefits adjustments as needed.

  • Create and maintain administrative procedures for benefits processes. Generate, maintain, and update departmental reports as needed.

  • Assist with quarterly wellness initiatives and the annual wellness fair. This includes but is not limited suggesting ideas, researching vendors, supporting the annual communications plan and the monitoring and implementation of initiatives.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required and requested reporting including but not limited to annual retirement plan audits, benefit surveys, data requests, and other post-employment benefits reporting.

  • Support the processing and reconciliation of monthly benefit billings and the preparation of vouchers for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.

  • Collaborate with Audubon staff to ensure that equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging principles are incorporated and followed in all aspects of our work.

  • Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned and/or requested.


  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human resources, or related field, and at least 3 years progressively responsible benefits experience in multi-state organizations. An equivalent combination of education and work experience will also be considered.

  • Minimum 1-year hands on experience with Workday Benefits and Reporting required.

  • Ability to manage deadline driven complex projects and priorities in an environment with frequent interruptions. Ability to allocate time efficiently, handle multiple demands and competing priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

  • Proactive, with a strong sense of urgency.

  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits and pension/retirement programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPPA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Workers’ Compensation, and Medicare.

  • Intermediate to advance knowledge of human resources information systems and databases familiarity and experience using Workday highly preferred.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel VLOOKUP.

  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills. The ability to clearly explain benefit plan options in easily understood terms.

  • Solve complex benefits related issues as they arise.

  • Work confidently with plan participants and third parties at all levels (including managers, executives, and retirees).

  • Experience in a unionized environment a plus.

  • Familiarity with international benefits a plus.

  • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to and experience in advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills to assess and interpret data related to compensation and benefits, with the ability to interpret data and make sound recommendations.
