JOB OBJECTIVE:

The position of the Outpatient RN CAP 1 is the first step into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This role involves providing and coordinating clinically proficient care which includes the assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation of assigned patients. Where applicable, the RN CAP 1 may delegate tasks to direct patient care staff including RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As a critical member of the End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) health care team, the role involves participation in decision-making, teaching, leadership tasks, and quality improvement initiatives for the betterment of patient care outcomes and overall facility operations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The duties and responsibilities are performed according to Fresenius Kidney Care policy, nursing practices, and state and federal regulations. Duties include:

- Systematic collection and analysis of patient data pre, during, and post-hemodialysis treatment.
- Collaborating and assessing patient or family's basic learning requirements to provide education consistently.
- Coordinating with the direct patient and ancillary care staff to deliver safe and effective hemodialysis therapy.
- Administering medications in accordance with approved guidelines and documenting medical justification as well as effectiveness.
- Participating in staff orientation and training.
- Ensuring correct procedures are followed for collecting, processing, and shipping laboratory samples.
- Collaborating with the Interdisciplinary Team to identify expected outcomes, document and update the nursing assessment and patient care plan.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Successful applicants must complete CAP requirements to advance. Additional duties may be assigned by the Supervisor.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The role involves physical tasks such as heavy lifting, moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation. The position requires periods of standing and bending. Some handling, with assistance, of machines and equipment up to 200 lbs., and lifting solutions up to 30 lbs. Working conditions include moderate noise levels and potential exposure to infectious diseases and materials. Desk work, interaction with patients, hospital staff, and physicians are part of daily duties.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The role involves overseeing Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs in the capacity of a Team Leader or designated Nurse in Charge, subject to meeting all the following:

- Successful completion of all FKC education and training requirements for new employees.
- A minimum of 9 months of RN experience.
- A minimum of 3 months of RN experience in chronic/acute hemodialysis.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

- Degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current relevant state licensure.
- Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

This position is for RNs with less than a year of Nephrology Nursing experience in the last two years. Preferably, candidates should have a minimum of 9 months registered nursing experience, with chronic/acute hemodialysis experience also preferred.
