ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

An Inpatient Services RN CAP 1 is an initiating stage into the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). This professional registered nurse holds responsibility for the management and coordination of competent clinical care. This includes patient evaluation, planning, intervention, and assessment for a specified group of patients. The scope of duties could involve the delegation of appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff such as RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians. As part of the kidney disease healthcare team, they also participate in decision-making, teaching, leadership roles, and quality improvement initiatives that improve patient care outcomes and program operations.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

All roles and responsibilities should be carried out in line with Fresenius Kidney Care policy, procedures, standards of nursing practice, suitable contractual service agreements, and state and federal regulations.

- Performs all key functions under the direction of the Supervisor and guided by the Educator, Preceptor or in partnership with another Registered Nurse.
- Ongoing systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment for appointed patients.
- Assess and collaborate on the basic learning needs of patient and family and provide initial and ongoing education.
- Recognizes patient status variations from normal and reports to appropriate health team members.
- Provides safe and effective patient care for assigned patients.
- Assesses daily patient care needs and collaborates with direct and ancillary patient care staff as needed.
- Initiates communication with FKC and Non-FKC dialysis providers and appropriate contracted facility personnel.
- Administers intradialytic transfusions, monitors, and documents patient's response.
- Administers medications as recommended and records its medical justification and effectiveness.
- Initiates and assists with emergency response measures.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position can involve heavy lifting, moving of patients, and assisting with ambulation while providing direct patient care. Equipment aids and/or coworkers may provide assistance. The positions also require frequent, prolonged periods of standing and bending over. Occasionally, the employer may be required to move, with assistance, machines and equipment of up to 200 lbs., and lifting chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs. as high as 5 feet.

SUPERVISION: 

Oversights of Patient Care Technicians/LVN/LPNs/RNs as a Nurse in Charge, after meeting all the FKC education and modality specific training requirements for new employees.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:

Appropriate current state licensure and current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification is a must. 

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

- Entry-level for RNs with less than 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience in the last two years as an RN.
- A minimum of 9 months experience as a Registered Nurse, 12 months (preferred).
- Acute dialysis experience (preferred).
- Hemodialysis and/or ICU experience (preferred).
