A Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is a Diagnostic Ultrasound Professional that is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures.
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography.
Job Requirements
Active certification by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in the specialty(ies) as appropriate.
Current compliance with Continuing Medical Education (CME) requirements for specialty(ies) as appropriate.
Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Technology Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or equivalent experience is required.

Unit Specific Information
Must have manual dexterity to operate equipment.
Ability to lift and move patient with or without assistance and maneuver equipment greater than or equal to 20 pounds.
Agility is required for frequent changes in position.
Visual and hearing acuity required to receive feedback and information from patients.
Periods of stooping, standing, bending, moderate lifting, and generally oriented patient care is included in this position.
