Job Overview:

The Store Manager Candidate is responsible for assisting the Store Manager in the efficient execution of all store operations including workforce management, inventory control, stocking and receiving, documentation, and meeting store requirements. This role serves as the development ground for potential Store Managers and is designed for a limited tenure.

Role & Key Job Functions:

- Assist with recruitment and staffing procedures.
- Participate in store merchandising by assisting in staging, stocking, and storing of products. Ensure that merchandise is displayed according to established practices and under the Store Manager's guidance. Correctly utilize merchandise fixtures, merchandise signing, and pricing.
- Participate in all aspects of inventory control, including execution of damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, and facility controls. Prepare and conduct inventories.
- Encourage exceeding in-stock targets through standardized ordering practices.
- Exhibit superior customer service leadership.
- Be a role model by adhering to company's procedures and policies as stipulated in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and company communications.
- Participate in store opening and closing procedures.
- Secure the safe deposit of all company funds in the designated banks.
- Maintain financial integrity of the store through strict cashier accountability, key control, and following the company's security practices and cash control procedures.
- Assist in maintaining clean, well-stocked stores and provide a safe environment for customers and employees.
- Operate store in the Store Manager’s absence.
- Review operational statements to identify business trends including sales, labor, profitability, and inventory turn. Also to identify expense control opportunities, potential shrinkage, and errors.
- Complete all documentation and paperwork according to guidelines and deadlines.

Requirements & Skills:

- Ability to understand documents such as diagrams, safety instructions, operating and maintenance guides, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and calculate percentages.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
- Proficiency in IBM cash register functions and generating reports.
- Understanding of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices (deposits, store keys, SAFE and STARS programs, etc.).
- Knowledge of recruitment, interview, hiring, counseling, and termination processes, including legal compliance and internal protocols.
- Effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal abilities, and organizational skills for meticulous attention to detail.
- Problem-solving abilities for diverse situations where limited standardization exists.
- Preference may be given to bilingual Spanish speakers at certain store locations.

Work Experience & Education:

- High school diploma or equivalent is highly preferred.
- Previous experience in a retail setting is preferred for external candidates.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

- Regular walking and standing.
- Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling for checkout operations, stock management, and unloading trucks.
- Regular handling of merchandise and equipment such as scanners, pricing guns, box cutters, merchandise containers and carts, two-wheel dollies, and U-boats (six-wheel carts).
- Proper and frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds; occasionally up to 55 pounds.
- Occasional climbing (using a ladder).
- Occasional driving/providing own transportation for bank deposits, management meetings, and to other Dollar General stores.
- Fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels.
- Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
- Note: This role involves some travel and limited overnight stays.
