OVERVIEW

The Managing Editor creates, documents, and upholds editorial standards and processes for curriculum, professional development, and multimedia assets for PLTW products. This role performs editorial functions, including reviewing text for accuracy, consistency, conciseness, logical flow, and PLTW language style. The Managing Editor performs substantive levels of edit on all content created for PLTW products before publication. Occasional travel required.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Edit curriculum, professional development, and media content in both digital and print formats for concision, clarity, and correctness.
  • Serve as primary caretaker of the organization's editorial style guidelines.
  • Create, organize, and prioritize a queue of editorial requests from projects across the organization.
  • Manage editorial projects to ensure adherence to schedule and quality requirements.
  • Evaluate opportunities to increase quality and enhance efficiencies related to the editorial process.
  • Identify, contract with, and manage external contractors and vendors to scale the organization's capacity for handling editorial projects as needed.
  • Identify and recommend potential opportunities to incorporate innovative methods and emerging trends within area of expertise.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or Technical Communications, or a related field of study, or equivalent related experience.
  • Knowledge and practice in current technical writing and editing standards.
  • Familiarity with the use of commercially available style guides (i.e. Chicago Manual of Style, Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association.
