Job Description:

Position sets up and operates a variety of machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, precision grinders, etc. to make parts, mechanisms, tools, or machines to exacting tolerances and dimensions.

Essential Functions:
  • These positions interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering specifications; determine sequence of operations, number of cuts required and method of setup and arrangement; work with a variety of machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments; make shop computations; and fit and put together precision parts and determine material, parts and equipment required.
    Fabricates piece parts per work instructions, drawings and specifications through the use of required machine tools. Inspects piece parts per work instruction and drawing requirements. Sets up and operates machine tools. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Uses, adjusts, cleans and stores the tools, machinery and equipment used.
  • Keeps records and reports of the use of equipment.


Qualifications:
  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant experience or 2 years post-Secondary/Associates Degree with 0 to 2 years of prior related experience.

Preferred Additional Skills:
  • A trade school certification or state-licensed Journeyman Machinist certification is strongly desired.
  • Manual machining experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of setting up the operation of milling machines and lathes.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, blueprints, production plans and/or work instructions.
  • Working knowledge performing in-process inspection of finished parts utilizing appropriate inspection and gaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry applicable laws, codes, ordinances and regulations.
  • Knowledge of machine tools and equipment, machine shop procedures and practices, principals and properties. Knowledge of basic mathematic principles to solve problems.
  • The ability to work in a team environment and relate to all levels of employees.
