# Beds 30- 2 negative pressure rooms for TB and overflow COVIDNurse:Patient Ratios 1:5-6 pushing 11 AM discharges- dayshift RNs need to get fast transition from admit to discharge- sometimes do have an admit RN but need to pick up fast admit/discharge modeRequired certifications (i.e., BLS, ACLS?) BLS, ACLSCommon diagnoses/Types of patients "High acuity, busy unit, possibly q2 vitalsSurgical overflow-post op spine and abdominal surgeriesCystic Fibrosis-(only 2 units in the hospital that get this population 21T and 24T) in isolation, requiring multiple abx, central line care, blood sugar checks, hungry all the time- high needsa lot of wound care- pressure injuries need to be knowledgeable of staging pressure injuries and doing dressing changesBariatric population- not fresh post op but post bariatric surgery complications- nausea, abd pain, pain managementSickle cell patients- frequent pain management, PCAsSometimes get CODEs, can get up to 2 per shift...want RNs knowledgeable and can help with CODEs- not hesitant to help "Experience or 'Must have' skills "MUST be able to read strips, RNs do EKGsMUST be proficient in blood administrationPrefer RNs that have experience with Cystic Fibrosis and Sickle Cell patientsMust have be good at critical thinking and have good decision making skills"Are RNs required to titrate drips? yesCommon titratable &/or set rate drips Amio, Primacore, Bumex, Lasix, Dobutamine, IVIG, lots of blood transfusions, premeds for CHEMO (chemo done by certified RNs) Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? "Tele techs are on the unit and will notify RN of changes RNs must be proficient with reading and interpreting tele- will take a Relias EKG exam prior to orientation start"Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? "Charge nurse available on all shiftsHave a unit secretary on the unit"Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios "PCAs (techs)- goal is 3 PCAs for max capacity some days will only have 2RNs help out with VS, BS checks, and other cares"RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.) "High flow, Nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP as long as not continuous- if cont. will go to StepdownRT will perform nebulizer treatments"Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) "12 hours- clock in starts at 6:38 huddle at 6:45, late clock in anything after 6:52. Clock out at 7:15 anything after 7:23 is incremental overtime. Get a 30 min lunch break- use a buddy system-buddy will cover assignment while you are on break Self scheduling but schedule is not finalized until balanced- use paper schedule and there 2 scheduling champions that will help balance the schedule prior to turning in to manager for finalization.Day shift does MDR-discharge rounding at 11.
