Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Technology Development Engineer and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the Astro materials Curation section in the Science Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract.

**International travel may be required. Straight time overtime, 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or 1 day of telework per week may be available**

Duties & Responsibilities

SOME OF YOUR MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

• Participate in NASA's ongoing preparations for lunar, asteroid, and other extraterrestrial sample return missions.
• Define, implement, and design laboratory tools and instrumentation for sample transportation and storage of extraterrestrial samples.
• Develop sample handling tools and containment, gloveboxes using CAD software.
• Assist with the definition and communication of laboratory design requirements for new and existing sample return laboratories and integration of new technology.
• Take part in regular domestic and international meetings (remotely and in-person) and telecons.
• Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for new technology developments.
• Sustain a safety-first laboratory culture.
• Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field and minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
• Experience using CAD, such as Creo, Solidworks, AutoCAD, or other solid model/manufacturing software highly preferred.
• Must be capable of and willing to work as part of a team with mixed skillsets, including scientists, engineers, technicians, etc.
• Willing to learn new laboratory techniques, develop new/unique technologies and create new solutions to problems presented.

PREFERRED

• BS or MS degree in mechanical, aerospace, environmental, petroleum/geotechnical engineering or associated engineering discipline.
• Knowledge of manufacturing methods and machining practices.
• Hands-on experience using machine shop equipment and tools.
• Experience making drawings for manufacturing following ASME Y14.5-2009 or earlier, standards.
