This position offers an exciting and challenging opportunity to support NASA’s present and future human spaceflight programs. You will focus on providing systems engineering and integration expertise for NASA’s current and future human rated spacecraft. Primary support will be to spacecraft associated with NASA’s Commercial Crew Program/Crew Transportation System (CCP/CTS), supporting NASA’s involvement in and evaluation of commercial human spacecraft programs. You will be responsible for ensuring system hazard reports received from the NASA partners (Boeing and SpaceX) are processed through the program with sufficient involvement from all stakeholders, including Engineering, Health & Human Performance, and Safety & Mission Assurance. Some travel to vendors, prime contractor sites, and/or vehicle processing centers may be required. Activities will include:

  • Receipt and logging of hazard reports from the partners
  • Evaluation and notification of the proper stakeholders in S&MA, Engineering, and H&HP
  • Technical evaluation of hazard reports for technical accuracy, completeness and compliance to NASA requirements
  • Review, evaluation, and compilation of all received comments into a single review package
  • Coordination of meeting with the partner to discuss/disposition comments
  • Support presentation to the appropriate safety review panel for final disposition and approval of the hazard report.
  • Provide recommendations to the safety panel chairmen regarding disposition of hazard reports, resolution of technical issues, and closure actions.
  • Provide inputs to Commercial Crew Program Certification of Flight Readiness (CoFR)

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION: BS in Engineering, Math, Physics, or other science degree.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in and knowledge of system safety analyses, processes and products
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple organizations / stakeholders and within a teaming environment to get results
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to generate high quality written technical reports and prepare and give high quality technical presentations for senior management and the NASA customer
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate technical issues and proposed solutions, identify alternate solutions, and provide recommendations based on technical merits and overall integrated risk trades (safety, technical performance, cost and schedule)
  • Ability to work autonomously, with minimal management oversight, to prioritize work and accomplish tasks within tight schedule constraints
  • High degree of technical excellence, integrity, and self-initiative
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Power Point, Excel) and SharePoint websites

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in human spacecraft systems design, test and verification, and operations
  • Knowledge of NASA design requirements and standards, and verification methods
  • Application of system safety and reliability analyses (Hazard analysis, FMEA, PRA) during the early design phases of a program/project life cycle to identify and mitigate risks to flight safety and mission success, and influence the final design, test and verification activities, and planned operations.
