Job Summary:

This position is a discipline expert (Technical Authority), responsible for providing technical expertise and support for rotating equipment engineering matters, globally. This includes full life cycle facets of design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, integrity, and reliability. The role acts as a technical authority and decision maker on matters that meet defined risk thresholds and/or have discipline related, companywide applicability. This position is authorized to endorse the application of company standards and practices within the confines of their discipline.
The Technical Authority process, with delegated authority to specific individuals, provides independent oversight of the discipline with a focus on safety, integrity, reliability, maintainability, and sustainability. The Technical Authority process and delegations originates within the applicable functional department within the company. Overall, the role is advisory with respect to influencing people, situations, and designs. The application of input from these advisory role is conditional on those responsible for execution and/or operation, acting in support of or on behalf of the company and its affiliates, to ensure full compliance with all applicable laws, codes, standards, corporate policies, and the principles of good engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance, inspection, audit, verification, and risk management.
The role provides and/or advises on training and competency requirements for the discipline; expected to develop & maintain a sufficient internal and external network to support the discipline for the purposes of delivering on the business need. This position also develops technical roles, responsibilities and competencies for asset-based Technical Authorities and endorses their assignments.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
· Provide technical expertise, support, and direction for all life cycle phases in matters of companywide interest, and as required for assets needs

· Collaborate with assets, strategic partners, and contractors to ensure that equipment is designed, installed, commissioned, operated, and maintained to discipline standards

· Responsible for reviewing, modifying, developing, and/or maintaining company-wide (and as required, asset-level) documentation for the specific discipline/function

· Participate in relevant industry professional societies to stay current with emerging technology, industry trends, regulations, and best practices

· Supports decision resolution on difficult and important integrity/process safety issues that affect the whole company or defined risk thresholds

· Provides innovation/technology review for discipline applicable pilot and scale projects

· Develop and maintain the discipline technical authority network:

· Develop/modify and maintain health of discipline to support broader functional and company objectives

· Provides competency assessment and delegation to discipline specific Asset Technical Authorities

· May review contractor capabilities within the applicable discipline to provide services for the company on company-operated worksites through assurance or the selection process, in compliance with the contingent worker policy

· In conjunction with GSC and assets, evaluate OEM selection, design, and maintenance facets regarding suitability of equipment for use in company operated assets

· May provide selection, coaching, and/or training within discipline or engage external resources for technical needs that an internal SME or TA is unable to address

· Serves as discipline technical authority for applicable MOCs based on risk level as required by the company Management of Change Standard and applicable asset MOC procedures

· May fulfill requests for Discipline-specific support to each asset to lead or participate in the following:

· Incident Investigation participation or review

· RCA participation or review

· Risk assessments

· May participate in or lead assurance (including any Discipline deep dives) for the Discipline in accordance with corporate requirements

· Provides discipline specific reviews and generates input for Value Assurance Review Process

· Should confirm Safety-Critical Elements (SCE) and Performance Standards are managed to expectations including:

· Consistency in defining SCE/equipment and regulatory-critical systems and performance standards that address the applicable Major Accident Events (MAE)

· Detailed, measurable and executable pass/fail criteria are available and are being implemented

· Dispensation process such as cancellations, deferrals, and barrier failure forms are correctly implemented with robust mitigations where required

· Review of SCE/equipment and regulatory-critical system suitability, survivability, reliability, and improvement processes based on performance standards

· As required, directs, or verifies design integrity (ongoing barrier sufficiency) of the discipline for new, modified, or aging assets
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
· Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, advanced degree preferred

· Fifteen (15) or more years of experience in rotating equipment engineering design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance required

· Deep competency in the discipline, including varied experience regarding the design, operation or maintenance of integrity safety-critical equipment or regulatory-critical systems required

· Extensive knowledge of pumps, compressors, turbines, and motors required

· Expertise in rotating equipment engineering performance analysis and optimization required

· Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and implement effective solutions

· Professional engineering license (or equivalent) preferred

· Proficiency in relevant discipline software and predicative tools

· Possesses strong knowledge of applicable codes and standards

· Current driver's license required

· Valid Passport and ability to travel offshore & internationally as needed
Working Conditions:
· Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) but also requires travel to off-site onshore/offshore work locations;

· Field duties require outdoor work in a construction site type atmosphere;

· Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;

· Working on a construction site or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels

· Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;

· May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;

· May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
Physical Requirements (With or without Reasonable Accommodation):
· Must be able to lift and carry 20 pounds;

· Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities which permits employee to communicate effectively;

· Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time;

· Sufficient vision or other powers of observation which permits employee to conduct analysis and investigations;

· Sufficient manual dexterity which permit the employee to perform routine office duties;

· Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
