The Project Superintendent is responsible for assisting Area Managers, Project Executives and Project Managers in overseeing the overall progress of one or multiple projects. The Project Superintendent is proficient in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control. Strong technical and communication skills are critical and expected in addition to developing and maintaining good relationships with owners, subcontractors, vendors, etc.


As a Project Superintendent, you will direct activities of field supervisors and workers related to construction of roadways, dams, highways, pipelines, or other construction projects ranging in cost from five million dollars to 50 million dollars. Maybe designated to work away from home for extended period of time according to project’s needs.


Project Superintendent Responsibilities and abilities include but are not limited to the list below.


  • Reads, understands, interprets, and enforces safety policies and practices.
  • Reads and understands plans, specifications and local building codes.
  • Schedules and documents all required inspections, quality testing, or other compliance requirements.
  • Complies with and documents environmental permits and inspections.
  • Completes daily reports such as units complete, safety reports, EEO meetings and weekly unit cost worksheets.
  • Reads and understands global project schedules and generates two-week construction schedules weekly.
  • Schedules and orders materials, inspections and manpower in order to meet project schedules and specifications.
  • Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and the adherence to construction schedules.
  • Confers with and directs personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
  • Maintains a general knowledge of equipment used on the job including basic understanding of equipment limits and designed purposes.
  • Tracks delivery, use and completion of rentals on the job.
  • Completes regular performance reviews for employees under his/her direction in a complete and timely manner. Ensures the employee understands the review, signs the review form and is provided a copy for his/her records.
  • Resolves complaints and grievances.
  • Completes at least 10 hours per year of continued education relating to construction management.
  • Attends monthly Superintendent meetings and actively participates.

  • A minimum of 5 plus years of dirt / earth superintendent work experience leading heavy equipment crews (e.g. trackhoe, backhoe, loader, crane, bobcat, skid steer, etc.)
  • A minimum of 5 plus years of work experience and understanding of all phase’s utility / Urban reconstruction
  • A minimum of 5 plus years of concrete work – specifically concrete removal
  • A minimum of 5 plus years of reading blueprint and specs for dirt work on roadway earth work projects.
  • Education – four or more years related experience and / or training; or a bachelor degree from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 5 plus years of experienced in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, safety management, quality control, and budgeting of all phases of civil construction.
  • Flexibility to work alternate schedules or weekends based on business needs.
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Pass criminal and driving background checks
