PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Patient Care Related:

- Administer patient care to assigned individuals directly
- Conduct all technical facets of dialysis processes for allocated patients as directed. Administering and overseeing treatments consistent with the current treatment plan or as led by the supervisor
- Making sure to document other data associated with patient care in a unique patient record
- Reporting any considerable details, changes in patient health, or equipment issues to the supervisor
- Assisting in the development of a teaching plan to educate the patient and family about end-stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications
- Cooperating with all emergency operational procedures
- Administer intravenous medication in line with physician orders and state nurse practice laws
- Be proactive in implementing and assessing CPR measures in response to a cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest and other emergency cases related to dialysis treatment

Technical duties:

- Safely manage all dialysis linked equipment per standard operating procedures
- Manage minor troubleshooting tasks
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic area in the dialysis treatment room
- Ensure immediate addressing of any blood spillage according to FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen control guidelines
- Properly operate all emergency equipment in line with operational procedures

Staff-related duties:

- Participate in scheduled staff meetings
- Assist in arranging both short-term and long-term patient care plans
- Enhance knowledge and information in the current practice relating to dialysis principles and technique by taking part in scheduled in-service education
- Be a source of guidance for other staff members
- Assist with aligning the care plan with the Physician, Dietitian, and Social Worker
- Accept additional duties as assigned

Our position requirements:

- Graduate of an accredited School of Practical Nursing (LPN, LVN)
- Present state licensure
- One year medical-surgical nursing experience desired
- Hemodialysis experience preferred but not required
- ICU experience preferred but not needed
- Successful completion of a course in the theory and practice of hemodialysis
- Successful completion of CPR Certification
- Must finalize Nurses Technical Training Program upon hire or as soon as possible
- Ability to cover at area facilities in times of staff shortage or as required
- Employees must pass the necessary requirements of Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a hiring prerequisite
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
