Overview:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist WEO is responsible for performing, analyzing, and releasing blood bank laboratory tests on specimens to ensure accurate and reliable results by adhering to established policies and procedures. Working under direct supervision, this role is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining complex instrumentation, prioritizing workload to meet turnaround times, and staying updated on competencies and regulatory standards. The Medical Laboratory Scientist WEO plays a crucial role in delivering accurate and timely diagnostic information that supports patient care and treatment decisions. This role has a weekend option, in which the staff member is required to commit to Weekend Exclusive Option (WEO) requirements and work two shifts within the WEO window for a premium rate.

Responsibilities:

Completes annual competencies for blood bank test systems and maintains knowledge of regulatory standards to ensure competence and compliance with regulations is vital to delivering accurate and safe blood bank services.
Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills, continuous learning, and provides assistance to colleagues in the blood bank department to contribute to the overall quality of blood bank operations.
Maintains and troubleshoots complex blood bank instrumentation to ensure proper corrective actions are taken before releasing testing results.
Performs all processes associated with testing of laboratory blood bank specimens according to established policies and procedures to ensure accurate and reliable blood bank testing.
Performs analysis of quality control materials and conducts quality assurance activities to maintain the integrity and ensure the accuracy of testing and reporting.
Practices effective and efficient use of blood bank supplies and actively participates in inventory control to help ensure the availability of necessary resources for blood bank operations.
Prioritizes duties and workload in the blood bank department to meet established laboratory turnaround times and contribute to efficient patient care and treatment decisions.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Six months experience as a technical generalist

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:

Required: Must have Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) pr Specialist in Blood Bank (SBB) or Technologist in Blood Banking (BB) or Technologist in Chemistry (C) or Technologist in Hematology (H) or Technologist in Microbiology (M) or Specialist in Microbiology (SM) by ASCP or AMT.
