Overview:
The Laboratory Specialist Flow Cytometry plays a critical role in the administration and coordination of the technical activities of laboratory personnel. This role oversees adherence to established practices, protocols, and quality standards to maintain accurate and reliable test results. The Laboratory Specialist Flow Cytometry analyzes data, troubleshoots issues, and implements process improvements to contribute to the effectiveness and efficiency of the laboratory and improve medical decision-making and overall health outcomes.

Responsibilities:

Maintains current theoretical knowledge of testing methods, techniques, procedures, and instrumentation, including bone marrow and flow cytometry procedures, to effectively perform all technical activities of the section and ensure accurate and reliable laboratory results.
Provides technical guidance and instruction to personnel outside the Flow Cytometry laboratory to ensure standardized and accurate laboratory practices across different areas, thus improving patient care.
Develops and performs quality control procedures to ensure the reliability of testing and proper functioning of laboratory equipment, while maintaining comprehensive quality control records.
Assists in the evaluation and implementation of testing methods, techniques, and procedures for laboratory application, ensuring the adoption of effective and validated methodologies leading to more accurate diagnoses and improved patient outcomes.
Assists in evaluating new laboratory equipment to ensure effective technical operation, contributing to the acquisition of reliable and efficient instrumentation for accurate testing.
Develops procedures manuals and seek approval from pathologists for new or significantly edited procedures, ensuring standardized protocols and compliance with best practices.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor?s in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or chemical, physical, or biological science. Bachelor?s Degree diploma must be provided. OR Bachelor?s degree in another field with a minimum of 60 Semester Hours specifically including, 6 hours of Chemistry, 6 hours of Biology and 12 additional hours in any combination of Chemistry, Biology or Medical Laboratory Technology. Transcript with degree indicated must be provided and evaluated by laboratory leadership prior to offer. OR Associates Degree with MLT certification - must earn Bachelor's Degree within 3 years to include the course work listed above.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: 4 years of experience in Flow Cytometry, Immunology or Hematology

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required: MT or MLS (ASCP) or other comparable lab certification. ASCP Specialist in Hematology, Immunology, or Cytometry is preferred. Valid driver?s license is required.
