Schedule: Sunday – Thursday 9:00 AM – 5:30 PM

Essential Job Functions

  • Make all pick up appointments for all of the backhaul orders for the division.

  • Communicate the arrival of the backhauls to the division with the division’s warehouse.

  • Appointments and scheduling: Make all pick up appointments for interdivision transfer orders and Return to Vendors.

  • Logistical coordination of pick ups and deliveries using the Dedicated Backhaul Drivers:

  • Plan the pick-up and delivery of all inbound backhauls dispatch all of the Dedicated Backhaul Drivers in the most cost-effective manner. In doing this the LC must take into account all DOT rules and regulations, equipment restrictions (such as weight, cube, pallets, and temperature), time restrictions (priority of the orders due to the need of the product by our customers), equipment availability, and any special requests of the division and the Transportation Dept.

  • Use of existing routes for backhaul: In addition to the dispatch of the Dedicated Backhaul Drivers, the LC shall also determine, (with cooperation and consideration of the Transportation Department) which backhauls will be able to be picked at the end of their delivery route and still be in compliance with DOT HOS regulations and also create the greatest financial efficiencies to the division.

  • Communicate with Transportation: Responsible for providing Router and Transportation with all of the daily dispatch information for all backhauls so that all trips can be entered, tracked, and monitored in Roadnet and Omnitrax. Also, daily monitor all backhauls not picked up and coordinate with trans for rescheduling.

  • Daily use of Manhattan: Daily monitor the Manhattan program to accept or reject load tenders.

  • Record of Loads: daily enter all purchase orders into the Backhaul Spreadsheet so that logistics revenue can be tracked and monitored by the Transportation Manager. Run the backhaul report to generate manifests for future Backhaul appointments.

  • Damages and shorts: Upon being notified of any damages or shorts, assist in contacting the vendors and drivers in order to find resolution of the issue and minimize any negative financial impact to the division. Process EZ Claims, with the cooperation of warehouse and lumper service, to recover loss to the division. Process DOT claims with cooperation of the warehouse to return to DOT any short-dated product, damaged product, or mis-shipped items and also make claims on shortages on trucks.

  • Daily Dispatching: Responsible to ensure that Dedicated Backhaul drivers and Delivery drivers have their instructions for their pick ups and deliveries, such as: times, locations, purchase order numbers, confirmation and pick up numbers, temperature of product, etc.

  • Research and Development: May review and research new backhaul opportunities with buyers and replenishment managers to best coordinate with existing backhaul schedule.

  • Communications and Urgency: Have above communication with Operations, Purchasing, Transportation, and Dedicated Backhaul drivers. Make sure that any abnormality or issue that may delay a delivery of a load or threaten the food safety of a load must be communicated to all groups and followed up with until the issue is resolved. Also realize the importance and urgency of each load to our business and to our customers.

  • Interdivision transfer orders: Pull and process all interdivision transfers, post to share drive, review for availability to transfer, communicate with other divisions and warehouse, process interdivision drop shipments for Fedex delivery or AIT.

SUPERVISION

Works under general supervision and deals with straight forward situations defined by policy; some knowledge of specific skills required.

Internal:

Operations, Transportation, Purchasing and dedicated Backhaul Drivers.

External:

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training: High School graduate.

Related Experience: 2 years of foodservice experience working with operations and purchasing.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Understand transportation in foodservice environment. Working with multiple departments and being a good communicator. Must be able to multitask and have good attention to detail.

PC skills with the following: working on dock scheduling (PowerDock), Manhattan, Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
