The Residential Driver will proficiently, safely, and respectfully provide waste removal services. The individual will gather solid waste or recyclables on curbside and backdoor routes before transporting to post-collection facilities.

Key Responsibilities include:

- Operating a residential/recycling collection truck, along with ancillary equipment and hydraulic system for solid waste and/or recyclables collection on specified routes
- Loading solid waste or recyclables into the rear- or side- of the waste collection vehicle
- Operating equipment on the truck to compact trash into the vehicle
- Employing prescribed techniques when operating truck and equipment to avoid driver-induced mechanical failures
- Completing pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, daily truck report, route sheets, and other documentation as requested by the supervisor

Additional tasks:

- Notifying mechanic and supervisor immediately about any vehicle mechanical issues
- Upholding route quality standards as predetermined by management
- Adhering to all safety standards, checks, and precautions
- Complying with all federal, local, and company rules on safety and vehicle operation
- Cleaning both interior and exterior of the vehicle
- Identifying and tag prohibited waste items, removing them from waste carts or cans
- Managing any assigned Helper(s) as appropriate
- Ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, ordinances, company policies, and supervisor directives
- Wearing all required PPE always
- Promptly reporting all accidents or incidents to supervisor(s)

Furthermore, the driver must:

- Maintain a professional demeanor, appearance, and conduct when interacting with customers or the general public
- Keep an accurate record of services provided
- Hold an inventory of all containers, residential carts, spare parts, and recommend additional purchases to supervisors
- Collaborate with supervisors to improve route efficiency
- Be willing to work overtime if needed, attend safety and branch meetings, and perform other duties as requested by management

Requirements:

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred
- Valid Commercial Driver's License
- A minimum of one year commercial driving experience or CDL school certificate
- Ability to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to company standards
- Demonstrable ability to operate the truck and equipment safely

Skills and abilities:

- Knowledge of the truck, its components, and basic maintenance requirements
- Skilled at maneuvering the truck into narrow spaces and backing up long distances using mirrors
- Ability to identify unacceptable waste (e.g. flammable materials like gasoline)
- Good communication skills, both with internal and external customers
- Reading, writing, and comprehension skills to understand associated documents and maps
- Willingness to accept changes and continuous improvement
- Capable of lifting, pushing, or carrying objects up to 50 pounds using proper techniques
- Coordinating two or more limbs while sitting or standing

Physical demands:

- Standing, walking, using hands and fingers, reaching, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, climbing, balancing, and smelling
- Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception - necessary due to constant maneuvering of the vehicle in tight, high-traffic areas
- Regularly lift/move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift/move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift/move up to 100 pounds
- Work is primarily driving, requiring up to 75% sitting 

Working conditions:

- Frequently exposed to loud noise, extreme hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles
- Outdoor work environment 100% of the time
- Frequently work away from branch location
- Possible work in high, precarious places
- Constant work in motor vehicle traffic conditions, usually in loud conditions
