ROLE and SCOPE:

This role underpins FMCNA's mission, vision, core values, and commitment to exceptional customer service. The position involves adhering to all regulatory and FMS policy requirements, ensuring quality patient care while efficiently managing clinical operations in compliance with all legal, compliance, and regulatory stipulations. As the clinical leader, one is endowed with the authority to make decisions on a daily basis to maintain care continuity and ensure the safety of patients and staff.

PRIMARY DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

   - Handles the strategic execution of short and long-term goals through direct coordination of activities having an impact on results, including costs, methodologies, and staffing.
   - Provides direction, mentorship, and growth plans for all direct reports fostering an engaged and productive workforce, liaising with Human Resources on employee-related issues.
   - Possesses technical expertise in the specific department and an understanding of industry practice and business principles. Works on diverse issues where the analysis of situation or data requires the evaluation of various factors, including current business trends. Has a broader scope within the department.
   - Ensures FMS quality standards are upheld through adherence to all ESRD regulatory requirements and the implementation of Quality Assessment and Improvement (QAI), including the usage of FMS QAI instruments.
   - Handles and responds to adverse events and action threshold breaches.
   - Oversees facility's Home Therapies Program if applicable.
   - Responsible for abiding by all relevant federal, state and local laws and regulations.
   - Ensures communication and implementation of all FMS Clinical Quality policies and procedures by the facility staff.
   - Preserves the integrity of medical records and other FMS administrative and operational records.
   - Complies with all data gathering and auditing activities.
   - Upholds facility environmental integrity, including safety considerations.

PATIENT CARE:

   - Coordinates all patient care facets with the relevant staff members, from patient admission until discharge.
   - Ensures patient education regarding quality measures, transplant options, modality awareness, and access care, including catheter reduction and compliance with the treatment regime.
   - Serves as a patient resource for addressing concerns and queries.
   - Responsible for the timely completion of patient care assessments and care plans by organizing Interdisciplinary Team meetings to discuss patient care plans and resolve any patient issues.
    
STAFF:

   - Responsible for instituting FMS staffing, and medical supply modes to ensure quality patient care, and makes recommendations accordingly.
   - Participates in the process of hiring new personnel, including the recruitment and interview process.
   
PHYSICIANS:

   - Facilitates correspondence between physicians and the facility's directors, and ensures strong relationships.

MAINTENANCE/TECHNICAL:

   - Responsible for maintaining the integrity and safety of the facility’s water system.
  
ADMINISTRATIVE:

   - Responsible for maintaining and updating all FMS manuals and ensures efficient utilization of medication, laboratory inventory, supplies, and equipment. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORKING CONDITIONS:

   - The position works under conditions representative of a healthcare facility setting which may involve exposure to infectious and contagious diseases/materials.

SUPERVISION:

   - The role involves direct supervision of various levels of staff as determined by the region.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:

   - A Bachelor's Degree is required; an Advanced Degree is desirable or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
   - Graduates from an accredited School of Nursing and has the current appropriate state licensure.

EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

   - 6 – 8 years’ related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
   - 3+ years’ supervisory or project/program management experience preferred.
   - Minimum of 12 months experience in clinical nursing is required. Experience in med/surg or ICU/CCU is preferred.
   - Minimum of 6 months chronic or acute dialysis nursing experience is required.
