Overview
The Cook is an integral part of our culinary team, using their insight and experience in food preparation to ensure timely, safe, and proper food production in accordance with our standard recipes. They consistently adhere to all food safety and sanitation requirements and maintain a safe and clean kitchen. In the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator, they are responsible for managing all aspects of food production.

Responsibilities

The Cook's key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Upholding high standards for food taste and quality.
- Preparing and serving meals in a timely manner per established standardized recipes and menus.
- Accurately record food production quantities and cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures using production sheets.
- Preparing diet modifications as ordered.
- Using Sunrise systems for order taking and meal delivery to ensure accuracy.
- Adhering to food safety standards and regulations when stocking, rotating, dating, and storing products.
- Keeping the kitchen, storage, and work areas clean and organized.
- Completing assigned cleaning duties and maintaining accurate daily and weekly cleaning logs.
- Keeping accurate equipment logs and reporting any issues promptly.
- Assuring all cooking equipment is in safe and working order, reporting any issues immediately.

The Cook also assists with other Dining Services duties assigned by community leadership, which may include:

- Dishwashing tasks as well as operating the dish machine(s) per instructions from the manufacturer.
- Performing light janitorial duties.
- Cleaning assigned kitchen equipment.
- Assisting with service in the dining area as needed.

Team Collaboration, Engagement, and Success

The Cook is also expected to:

- Participate actively and work toward team goals.
- Show commitment to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of Service.
- Contribute to overall engagement programs for both residents and team members.
- Attend all required meetings, such as Town Hall, Department Team, Cross Over, and others directed by the Dining Services Coordinator (DSC).

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

- Minimum of one (1) year job-related experience in food preparation in a similar environment such as a restaurant or hotel.
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Certifications including CPR Certificate, First Aid Certificate, ServSafe® Manager Certificate, and Local Health Department Food Handler Card.
- Prior culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
- Good communication skills in writing and speech.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrate good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
