Unit Specific Information
Unit: MS/Ortho
32 beds in the unit
Nurse-to-patient ratios are 4:1 (with 2-3 PCTs on day shift)
Common diagnoses/Types of patients include post-op: colorectal, urological, bariatric, hepatobiliary, hysterectomy, breast reconstruction, etc. AND Chemo/Oncology patients
Experience in strong post-op assessment and time management skills - high patient turnover unit
RNs are not required to titrate drips
Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCAs
Charge nurse does not take assignment but may help administer chemo on/off the unit
Nurse aids available on day shift - usually have 12-14 patients each
RT Equipment includes Cpap, high flow for palliative care patients only
No tele/monitor techs on unit, RNs are not required to read their own strips
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge nurse does not take assignment
Floating Requirements: Yes, to other med/surg/tele units
Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided: navy blue
Unit/Department specific orientation: Yes - 2 shifts with a preceptor
Additional Details
Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start (with 2 max attempts).
There is also a pass/fail Sim Lab on day one of orientation (study guides will be provided with first day instructions.
Our unit is also equipped/prepped to admit appropriate patients to hall/overflow space and may need to prep some rooms to 'double-bunk'
