Working under general supervision and medical guidelines, the role necessitates conducting procedures related to respiratory care. Exercising substantial discretion, the role aligns with the physician's treatment plan and within the department's policies and regulations. Responsibilities encompass patient/family assessment and management, resource management, facilitating care, and implementing discharge plans when needed. Duties involve the evaluation of the resident's condition, administering prescribed therapy and aerosolized drugs, observing and recording a resident's progress in response to therapy techniques, any adverse reactions to medications and therapies. Providing in-house training to residents, family members, and facility staff is also expected. The principal resident population constitutes adults and geriatrics. Utilizing knowledge about growth and development principles ensures adequate care fitting the unique physical and psychological needs of the resident. 

Key Responsibilities:

- Initiate, monitor, and maintain life support systems in the skilled nursing facility. Oversee airway care and maintenance and manage artificial ventilator status as per directed protocols. 
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators and engage in cardiopulmonary resuscitation procedures.
- Initiate, monitor, and document various respiratory care modalities.
- Perform residents' cardiopulmonary status assessment, utilizing skills like physical assessment, lab findings, chest radiological studies, pulmonary function tests, and professional judgment.
- Administer appropriate technical respiratory care procedures and ensure optimal therapy results.
- Perform routine inspections and tests on equipment, maintain a necessary stock of equipment, and fulfill administrative duties.
- Assist in emergency cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as part of the emergency team.
- Initiate, administer, evaluate, and document all therapy modalities ordered by a physician.
- Recognize adverse reactions in residents to therapy and react accordingly.
- Document all resident care services rendered as part of a medical record.

The successful Respiratory Therapist must have a high level of knowledge of respiratory therapy, completed an NBRC approved and accredited program, and one year of clinical practice experience under medical direction. Must possess a current Basic Cardiac Life Support certification, and current State Licensure for a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
