Reporting to the Site Manager and/or Yard Forman, he/she supports the effective processing and treatment operations all while maintaining a safe working environment. He/she is responsible for maintaining on going communication with the Site Manager and/or Yard Forman regarding soil processing, treatment, and equipment related issues and concerns. He/she will also be in contact with contractors and sub-contractors on site; as such he/she must maintain a professional attitude.

This position requires professional communication and organizational skills in conjunction with solid problem solving and time management ability. Experience in operating heavy equipment and general maintenance is mandatory. He/she is responsible for working in compliance with all Company policies and procedures as well as any related Ministry of Labour, Health, or Environment Regulations. He/she is responsible for ensuring all staff and subcontractors also wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work in a safe manner.



Job Duties

  • Operate front end loader, excavator, skid steer, rubber tire backhoe, dozer and screening plant to facilitate receiving, loading and processing of contaminated and clean soil;
  • Ensuring compliance with the Environmental Compliance Approval;
  • Co-ordinate and organize his/her daily work schedule with the Site Manager and/or Yard Forman;
  • Assisting with the construction and tear down of biopiles and biocells, soil stockpiling and truck loading;
  • Aiding in the Screening process of contaminated material
  • Be responsible for the maintenance of equipment, and advise the Site Manager and/or Yard Forman of any defects and/or maintenance issues involving equipment;
  • Be responsible for the daily safety and maintenance checks, including daily lubrication for all equipment and thorough daily circle checks on equipment as assigned by the Site Manager and/or Yard Forman;
  • Ensure equipment and tools are clean and safely and securely stored;
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and serviced as scheduled and/or required;
  • Ensuring open communication with the Site Manager and/or Yard Forman toward setting daily as well as weekly goals to be completed;
  • Ensure all staff and sub-contractors operate in a safe conscious manner;
  • Report any incidents or Health and Safety related issues to the Site Manager and/or Yard Forman;
  • Make recommendations to the Site Manager where and when necessary to revise, remove, review or add policies and procedures;
  • Participating in the Emergency Response and Remedial Action Plan (ERRAP);
  • Ensure a clean work environment
  • Make suggestion for revisions to Health and Safety and/or corporate policies and participate in regular Health and Safety (including tool box) meetings;
  • Co-ordinating transportation and site work when necessary;
  • Weigh trucks in/out as necessary;
  • Ensure that all employees, visitors and contractors conduct themselves in an appropriate manner which respects all of the safety and all other policy and procedures;
  • Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient way according to all applicable legislation, policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Heavy Equipment Training Diploma Preferred
  • Experience operating front end loaders, excavators, skid steer loaders, rubber tire back hoes, dozers and screening plants
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance and the ability to perform small repairs when necessary
  • Knowledge of soil processing procedures and job site traffic flows
  • Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures
  • Team building skills
  • Analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to read, write to record and maintain daily records
  • Effective communication skills
  • Stress & Time Management skills
  • Ability to lift minimum 100 lbs and work in all weather conditions
  • Previous environmental industry / environmental sampling would be considered an asset.

Knowledge

He/she must be proficient in the following areas:

› Knowledge of truck and equipment safety;

› Knowledge of Data tracking systems;

› Knowledge of equipment maintenance and the ability to perform small repairs would be an asset;

› Knowledge of workplace safety requirements and procedures;

›Knowledge of computers and mobile devices;

› Knowledge of operation of front end loaders, excavators, dozers, skid steer loaders and other pieces of equipment.

› Knowledge of soil processing procedures and job site traffic flows
