Senior Nursing Director Pre and Post Procedural Care Outstanding opportunity for a nurse leader in MGH Pre and Post Perioperative and Procedural Care Units! The position has oversight of the 33 bay Center for Perioperative Care Unit (CPC), 92 bay Post Anesthesia Care Units (PACUs) and the 10 bay White 13 Post-procedure Observation Unit. - The CPC Unit provides pre-procedure nursing care for ambulatory, same day admission, post anesthesia, and peri-procedural care for patients receiving ECT. The CPC phone program performs approximately 35,000 pre-procedure nursing assessments per year. - The PACU provides pre and post operative/procedure care for pediatric and adult patients in the intensive care setting. The 30-bay main PACU also provides inpatient care for boarding patients. This role reports to the Associate Chief Nurse. With 24-hour accountability, the Senior Nurse Director (SND) in collaboration with other service, team, and departmental colleagues, assures proficient, care inthe inpatient, outpatient, and community settings within the division. Participates in the development, refinement, communication, and actualization of the MGH Department of Nursing (DON) vision. The SND is accountable for nursing practice, quality measurement and improvement, education and professional development, clinical information systems, fiscal oversight/planning and human resources related matters, patient care, leadership development, and strategic management. Emulates leadership principles represented by the Professional Practice Model (PPM): Compassion, Knowledge, Excellence, Collaboration and Relationship-based care. Establishes and maintains an environment that encourages professional nursing practice. Serves as a clinical leader/coach/mentor to nurse leaders. Attracts, retains, and develops promising leaders. Identifies, encourages, and provides mechanisms for participation through shared governance. Provides leadership to nursing and clinical leadership staff in the selection, evaluation, promotion, and termination of employees. Develops, implements, and monitors performance standards and management systems to assure continuous improvement on the quality of service and care. Committed to the success of the organization through engaging, positive, and inspirational interactions and continuous role-modeling of the behaviors consistent with the mission, vision, and values. Participates in crafting systems to improve the patient care environment, knowledgeable about and mindful of relevant regulatory compliance. Including environment of care plan to ensure a safe, infection-free, and efficient area for patients, visitors, and employees. Facilitates planning, implementation, and evaluation of the Departmental Quality Plan, along with nurse-sensitive indicators and patient satisfaction metrics. Supports and emulates an environment passionate about quality and safety with a just-culture. Participates in review process and improvement measures. Works to operationalize human resource policies to include behavioral interviewing, credentials compliance, orienting, evaluating, mentoring/counseling, corrective action and terminating staff. Actively builds inter-professional relationships to assure dialogue around patient care and issues to improve positive patient care. Qualifications - Current registration in nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. - MSN, DNP, PhD, or a BSN with a master’s degree in a related field, required. - Minimum 3 years nursing leadership experience required. - Experience in an academic medical center perioperative and/or intensive care preferred. - Certification in specialty (preferred).
