Summary
The Staff Accountant helps maintain the integrity of Community Resources for Justice financial infrastructure and performs duties to help ensure that accurate, timely and reliable financial information is available for a variety of users. In this role, you will have the opportunity to utilize your skills in analysis, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), fixed assets (FA), bank reconciliations, investments and other general ledger activities.

The Staff Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions, from daily bank activity and assigned general ledger account reconciliations to ensuring accurate billing practices, preparing financial schedules and monthly close and year-end audit support.


Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations
The essential functions are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform this job:
  • Perform accounting duties in connection with month-end closing process, including journal entry preparation, bank reconciliations and assigned general ledger account reconciliations
  • Document, analyze, reconcile and maintain complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions to include lead workbook/spreadsheet schedules.
  • Manage, record and communicate daily bank activities for agency bank accounts
  • Support the Accounting Manager with the acquisition and tracking of capital assets to ensure proper accounting for acquisition, amortization, re-valuation, impairment and disposition
  • Provide backup for accounts receivable as necessary, including invoice processing, aging report and collections.
  • Prepare, maintain and analyze lead revenue, accrued income and deferred revenue schedules to ensure accurate billing practices
  • Assist accounts payable with various bill upload and accounting software integrations
  • Fully understand the activity for the organizations divisions and service lines and the related month end accounting processes
  • Support the design and implementation of new policies and procedures related to business activities and audit requirements
  • Assist in the preparation, review and compilation of financial schedules for Uniform Guidance (UG), financial statement audits, 990, Uniform Financial Reporting (UFR), 3ABC and other reports as necessary
  • Provide year end audit support for various PBCs including AR and AP aging, collection notes, cash receipts, cash disbursements, investment and fixed asset roll forward
  • Coordinate and support the Fiscal Team with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Work on other projects as assigned
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial planning and decision-making


  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college
  • Two or more years of progressive experience in the Accounting department
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Not for Profit and/or Government contract accounting experience a plus
  • Demonstrated time management, problem-solving and attention to detail
  • Able to meet deadlines, without sacrifice of detail or accuracy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and accounting software (experience in Netsuite is a plus).
  • Commitment to CRJ’s mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationship with colleagues and partners
  • Exposure to Federal form 990, MA Form PC, MA 3ABC form and MA Uniform Financial report a plus
  • Ability to flex work schedule required to meet deadlines beyond routine workflow.
