Sr. Medical Technologist Training, Blood Bank $10K Sign-On Bonus! Role: 1. Oversees the orientation and training of new employees. Coordinates this training by assigning suitable trainers and maintaining constant communication with both trainer and trainee. Maintains documentation of training and qualification. 2. Is responsible for the training of Medical Laboratory Science students. Assigns suitable trainers. Oversees the quizzes and practical examination. Is responsible for calculating final grades. 3. Oversees the program which includes educating Pathology and Anesthesia residents, fellows and interns as needed on tasks related to Blood Bank and pretransfusion testing. 4. Trains and qualifies trainers. Ensures that each trainer is qualified and effective. 5. Manages the training of staff for new or changed processes. 6. Oversees retraining initiatives. Provides appropriate documentation of employee competency. 7. Creates, implements and reviews competency as needed for staff including, but not limited to, annual “wet” reference samples, six month and one year evaluations for new hires and any necessary corrective action. 8. Drives continuing education initiatives for staff. 9. Oversees equipment maintenance, schedules staff for required work monthly and enters work orders into equipment management software. 10. Maintains competency and proficiency in all areas of lab as assigned by management. Is able to work as an operational senior technologist in all areas as needed. 11. Works on special projects to meet the needs of the department. Special projects may include implementation of new programs, evaluating workflows, validations for procedures or processes, writing or revising a procedure or large trainings required for computer upgrades. 12. Adheres to the blood bank’s departmental standards for professionalism. Maintains an effective working relationship, and works collaboratively with supervisors, senior technologists, co-workers and other hospital employees. Employs effective communication skills when dealing with all BWH staff. Understands and promotes the BWH and Blood Bank Mission and Vision Statements. Adheres to BWH policies for BTU use, tardiness, breaks and computer Internet use. Serves as a role model to co-workers, provides leadership and affects the workplace in a positive manner. Flexibility is required to meet staffing needs during vacations, sickness, and other staffing shortages. 13. Complies with all hospital safety requirements. Is knowledgeable about hospital policies concerning fire drills, OSHA regulations, hazardous waste management, chemical hygiene plan, and radiation safety. Also responsible for completing all Blood Bank education and training requirements. This includes yearly reviews of all standard operating procedures, participation in continuing education activities, and the performance of proficiency and competency tests. 14. Performs all other duties as required. Qualifications: 1. Requires BS or BA, must have MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification with 3-5 years experience; (minimum of 2 years experience in Blood Bank). 2. SBB Certification or eligibility preferred. 3. Successful completion of Senior Technologist advancement process. 4. Successful completion of the hospital’s Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment. Unescorted access to the Blood Bank Irradiators is a requirement of the position.
