Schedule: Per diem variable hours between 7a-1030p The Perianesthesia Patient Care Assistant provides direct and indirect care to perioperative patients in the preoperative and post operative areas to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality patient care. Under the supervision of the Clinical Leader/Charge Nurse/Nursing Director the PCA performs various clinical duties which facilitate each patient’s readiness for surgery. The Perianesthesia PCA provides a broad range of care and services to patients, including but not to limited to, EKG, phlebotomy, blood glucose monitoring, completing EKGs, supporting Perianesthesia procedures within their scope, responding to medical emergency situations utilizing Heartsaver CPR and AED skills, patient transport and securing equipment and supplies. The PCA will provide safe accurate transportation of patients. The PCA will also assure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice. Principle Duties and Responsibilities: - Anticipates and identifies patient safety risks in collaboration with patient care team and takes appropriate action. - Cleans equipment as needed - Delivers linen to units as requested. - Accurately collects and records patient data (vital signs, intake and output, blood sugar, weights, other) and complies with hospital documentation standards to ensure a complete and accurate patient record. - Performs and records vital signs, EKG and phlebotomy under the supervisor of a licensed Nurse. Assist interdisciplinary staff with patient procedures as needed - Utilizes Epic EHR to document all appropriate care. - In collaboration with the licensed nurse, reinforces the patient education provided by the nurse and provides patients/families with basic patient care instruction, such as instruction for using the call light and safety requirements. - Maintains and demonstrates compliance with hospital and nursing competencies and care standards. Maintains competence in relation to a variety of technical skills that may include but are not limited to: performing EKGs and blood glucose monitoring, applying simple dressings and Heartsaver CPR and AED skills Grade: 130 Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, an affiliate of Mass General Brigham, is committed to supporting patient care, research, teaching, and service to the community. Our employees call it home. - High School Diploma or GED certificate required. - Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license required. - Active AHA Heartsaver CPR and AED program required. - Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards - Experience as an emergency medical technician or patient care assistant or nursing student preferred. - Ability to effectively speak, read and write using the English language - Ability to pass clinical competency, basic math and reading testing - Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements, to measure height and weight, intake and output and calorie counts - Ability to accurately interpret and utilize basic medical terminology and abbreviations - Physical ability to push, transfer, and pull heavy loads throughout assigned shift - Physical ability to meet core job requirements in accordance with practice setting demands, for the patient populations regularly served - Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with nursing staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, and other hospital staff - Organizational skills to set priorities and efficiently complete assigned work
