Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses with evaluation, management, and treatment of patients during office visits and other tasks related to the visit consistent with their training and skills. Their primary roles are to assure efficient patient flow through the office; to maintain neat, clean, and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs. - The Medical Assistant will work under the combined guidance of the Nurse and Administrative Managers. - Performs pre-visit vital signs, weights, blood pressure, pulses, weights and temperatures - Documents the patient’s reason for visit and/or chief complaint or symptoms in the medical record. - Reviews and documents the patient’s current medications list, update immunizations and organize, for the provider, medications to be re-filled and all pertinent documents for the visit type - Instructs and assists patients in the collection of specimens. Processes, within the practice, any specimens, which require special handling. - Performs PCOT, EKG tracing and visual acuity testing when indicated by the practice procedures - Perform phlebotomy and/or EKG, according to clinical standards, within the respective areas, as part of an assignment - Maintain the appearance, supplies and function of the individual clinical areas to which the staff member is assigned - Assists with patient examination, i.e. gynecological exams, LARCs and other procedures - Assists patients with ambulation to assure their comfort and dignity during the provision of care - Maintain the clinical space; and assumes responsibility for the maintenance of a clean and organized clinical workspace. - Exam rooms are to be fully stocked with all the necessary supplies and equipment required by providers - Check refrigerator temperature on a daily basis and document the results on the log - Assists in the escorting of patients to the Emergency Room, Radiology or other pertinent location essential for the patient to complete their care. - Perform all other related duties necessary to maintain the operational integrity of the Practice. SKILLS: · Knowledge of computer skills preferred including EPIC and Microsoft Outlook as required. · Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility to manage multiple tasks with accuracy and attention to detail · Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment · Excellent and effective interpersonal and communication skills · Demonstrated ability to work effectively and courteously with various groups of patients, families, support staff, and providers · Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and function as a resource to other members of the team · Ability to resolve complex issues on behalf of the providers and the patients · Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAAConfidentiality and Privacy Policies · Ability to Prioritize · Accuracy and attention to detail · High school graduate · Basic Life Support certification required · Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program and/or previous comparable work experience preferred · Phlebotomy – Pediatrics preferred · Associates degree preferred · 1 – 3 years of Medical Assistant experience
