The Health Educator is a member of the team in the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion at Harvard University Health Services. This role is responsible for the effective implementation of a comprehensive health education program grounded in the socio-ecological approach and in alignment with the leadership and vision of the leadership team at the CWHP. The Health Educator assists in the development of goals and measurable objectives for the department and collaborates with other team members to develop workshops and programs that intersect with the other aspects of wellbeing including topics of sleep, sexual health, and stress management. They provide direct supervision to the graduate and undergraduate student intern program. In addition, they oversee and maintain a dynamic peer education program that trains students as leaders in health intervention and risk reduction strategies. The Health Educator also supports the BASICS intervention services when necessary. This role is responsible for providing programming, services, and outreach, as well as coordination of assessment methodologies including, but not limited to large scale surveys.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Responsibilities:
  • Assists in the development of, goals, and measurable objectives for the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion.
  • Provides supervision and mentorship to undergraduate and graduate interns.
  • Develops and maintains a dynamic and innovative peer education program that trains students as peer leaders in health intervention and risk reduction strategies.
  • Serves as co-supervisor to peer education groups.
  • Continuously works to understand and communicate emerging trends in health education programming.
  • Provides innovative and creative programming to the Harvard community to encourage healthy choices, healthy decision-making, and broaden the community's understanding of health and well-being.
  • Supports the BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) intervention services when necessary throughout the year
  • Implements timely assessment and evaluation methodologies in collaboration with others in the Department and in the University.
  • Assists in the development of online resources
  • Actively participates in HUHS committees and University partnerships/committees/task forces as required
  • Actively explores opportunities to expand and deepen professional skill set
  • May represent Harvard University Health Services and the Center for Wellness and Health Promotion at national/local meetings, and conferences.

COMPLIANCE:
  • Adheres to the expectations and professional responsibilities of the department.
  • Employs the standards, practices, and procedures of the department.
  • Completes and complies with HUHS training requirements including HIPAA Privacy and Security.
  • Reports non-compliance incidents to the supervisor, manager, and/or Compliance Officer.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant work experience

Required: Bachelor's degree in health education, psychology or related field or MPH Candidate (graduation expected 12/2024): Minimum of two years' experience in College/University Health Promotion, ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students; familiarity with evidence-based prevention strategies and knowledge of current trends in health promotion. Strong skills in presenting and public speaking, facilitating groups, collecting and analyzing data. Ability to work independently and collaboratively; excellent interpersonal, organizational and written and oral communication skills; flexible schedule and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
Masters or advanced degree in health education, public health, psychology, nursing, or related field. Familiarity with environmental management theory, evidence-based prevention strategies, and knowledge of current health-related issues. Experience providing BASICS in a higher education setting. Experience with data collection, program evaluation and outcome assessment.
